Re: The beginning of the end for yours truly
From Candy on FB:
Sorry it has been so long since I have posted an update. Garry felt like he was in a holding pattern there for awhile. The newest scan shows new lesions on the left side, which is the cause of his recurring intense pain. Chemotherapy is not working, and other treatment options will be discussed on Monday. They will do an M.R.I. this week to see if there are lesions on the brain. So, please send prayers, positive vibes, phin power, and much love his way.
Garry has a birthday coming up (December 25). If you'd like to brighten Garry's day with a card here is his address:

Re: The beginning of the end for yours truly
Belated New Year greetings to all. Again, I apologize for being M.I.A. for so long- these last few months have been extremely challenging. The extreme fatigue and intensity of the recurring pain that kicks in from time to time have been overwhelming. I’ve been wanting to post an update, however, and I wanted to do it here rather than on FB. FB has become a cult, a cult which I don’t want to be part of.
First off, I wanted to express my sincerest thank you’s to everyone who sent me holiday/birthday cards and everyone who has been checking on me via messenger or text. Penny/Ron, Linda/Kevin, Larry (I love the new Hooters calendar, B.T.W.), Ken, Debbie, Janice, Susan, Eric, Shannon, and so many others. Sorry if I missed anyone- my mental and emotional being have been attacked almost as much as my physical being.
Here’s my latest update. The tumors have been growing very aggressively. The chemotherapy is not working. They have stopped treatments.
I'm starting a clinical trial beginning on Wednesday. It's going to be very challenging for me. For the next several weeks, dragging myself out of bed at 6 AM when my energy level is zero to be at the hospital by 8- my body will be going through a meat grinder. I’ll be one of the “guinea pigs” for a new cancer drug yet to be approved by the FDA- lots of potential side effects, and, to be honest, I’m not comfortable at the thought of going through this, but at this point, I really don't have much choice. All the infusions, all the driving back and forth. This week it’ll be Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8 AM to about 5 PM.
I was so healthy less than a year and a half ago.
But, if nothing else, hopefully my trial will benefit some young child who, God forbid, gets cancer sometime in the future. I’m skittish about doing this trial, but the trial isn’t about me. Yes, it may benefit me a bit in the short term by buying me a bit more time, but, in reality, this may benefit a future cancer patient. Time will tell. As I’ve said before, this is reality- not always nice, but always real.
Please know, I may not be in touch as often as I once was, but I do think of ALL of you every day, and wish all of you a long, happy, healthy life, filled with peace, joy, comfort, and love well into your 90’s and beyond.
Cherish your lives, cherish your loved ones. Be kind to yourselves and everyone in your circle. Be kind to each other, try to be there for each other when you’re needed. I may be dying, but if you let the love I have and have had for each of you continue to circulate inside you, I will live forever.
Thank you all for the texts- too many to name, so I’ll just say thank you to everyone. You’ve made these past 25 years the joy that it’s been.
I’ll post updates when I can, but please know I will carry all of you in my heart to my grave and into eternity.
Oh- and one more thing- have a drink for me at your next tailgate.

Thinking of you and keeping you in my thoughts on a daily basis. I thank those who keep us posted on what is going on with you. I don't get on BN as much as I use to. But you are thought of and loved. I always enjoy your company. Even if you are a Yankee fan. Stay strong my friend.

Re: The beginning of the end for yours truly
Thank you, everyone.
I wish I could put into words just how much I absolutely cherish all of you. My only regret is that geography and our own lives prevented us from being closer. It’s one thing to be dying, it’s something else altogether to die alone.
I really appreciate every one of you.
And Steve, I received your card also. Thank you so much.

Stopping by to send my love Garry. I'm optimistic about the new treatment. Even if hope is all we've got, I'm not letting that go. I'm pulling for you buddy!
