It is drizzling and beginning to thunder.
Just hoping for the best.

Having a hurricane party?springparrot wrote: ↑August 26, 2020 3:33 pm Trying to get all the odds and ends of laundry done in case we don't have power. Also charging up all our power chargers for our phones. Can't find my solar one. It will turn up...maybe.
What else should we be doing?
Or is that Floridian thing?
Many years ago at a place in Fiji called Wananavu (go there if you are in Fiji - it's worth the hassle of getting to it) there were a bunch of folk from St Louis and some from Florida staying while we were there. There was a cyclone heading our way, so we mucked in to help the resort staff get ready and were finally back in the pool with rum drinks, the Floridians suggested a cyclone party.
The guys from St Louis were all engineer types and were a bit on edge. As the manager walked past I said to him (loud enough for all to hear) "so we'll all repair to the main bar and get shut in if the storm gets here?" "That's the plan" he said.
"Bar stays open though?" I asked.
"You might have to serve yourselves though." he replied happily as he walked away.
I then turned to the engineers and asked if they had wondered why the main bar area was constructed out of big beams and very stout walls and the like. None of them had realised. I then said "it's the cyclone proof structure that we will hole up in if need be and it's full of booze...".
They seemed to relax at that point.
Sadly, the cyclone stalled which meant we were able to do the 2 hour drive to the airport. We were the last flight to get away before they closed the airport. It's a pity because I would have like to make that phone call "Hey boss, stuck in Fiji due to a cyclone, so I won't be in next week..."

I'm seeing all my Harvey posts from 3 years ago pop up in my Facebook memories. Today's are from the first Saturday and Saturday night. That night. UGH. All the severe storm alerts. I didn't sleep at all.
I must be wishing on someone else's star....

Me too. Hoping this one isn't as bad for us. Looks like wind and some rain. Keep all those in the cone in my thoughts.txaggirl91 wrote: ↑August 26, 2020 5:08 pm I'm seeing all my Harvey posts from 3 years ago pop up in my Facebook memories. Good evening, and all good thoughts for those in the path of Laura.
I'll take 1/4 of the rain that comes with it for our state.
Busy day at work, and got introduced to face shields along with the mask. So freaking hard to breathe, and there's a horrible reflection inside the shield, which makes it hard to see computers, phones, people. That and you have to shout to be heard. Feel worse for our RN's and CNA's that have to deal with our patients.
ANOTHER 90+ day today, and again tomorrow. Looking forward to a few degrees cooler this weekend.
