Fajita SAT @ the MSC

Post by Saltx3 »

Hello All!

Yummmmm -- National Fajita Day --- who's making them???

On August 18, we recognize a dish sizzling with savory Tex-Mex flavor. It’s National Fajita Day!
Originally made from throwaway cuts of beef by Mexican vaqueros in Southwest Texas, the fajita was developed as a regional staple in the early 1930s. These cowboys cooked the steak over an open fire or grill and served it with flour or corn tortillas. Fresh Pico de gallo, guacamole and southwestern spices elevated the fajita, introducing it to new audiences as it later became a destination food in the culinary world.
As their popularity grew, fajitas added colorful flair to Tex-Mex menus with sizzling platters full of bright peppers, onions, tender steak, shrimp, chicken or pork with freshly made tortillas. By the 1980s, most Mexican restaurants in the United States served fajitas. In the modern culinary kitchen, lime, cilantro and a plethora of vegetables find their way into a fajita along with the perfect seasonings. Grilling with mesquite adds a smoky flavor and bacon adds crunch. Of course, who could forget the cheese? With their festive presentations, they continue to be enjoyed today. The fajita has come a long way from skirt steak trimmings!
With festive presentations, fajitas delicious flavors are being celebrated around the world. The fajita has come a long way from skirt steak trimmings!

Good morning Linda. We eat at a Mexican restaurant often, but I never order fajitas.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

Ditto. We were just at one last night called, "Las Fajitas", but I never order them. Not fond of the peppers and onions. :)

Good morning! :) Off to Mom's, then a beer fest. A bunch of breweries there and several food trucks. Third year in a row that we're going. :D

Good morning.

The Pelicans disappointed me again, the souvenir mug was a sample size glass like you get at a beer festival. They had the Sam Adams logo on them because Sam donated them. They were supposed to have 24 beers and ciders but only had 20. No big deal, even with a sample size glass you can't try all of them, but 2 of the 4 beers they dropped from the list were beers I never had before and I wanted to try them.

They had a stein holding contest, you had to hold a beer stein full of water at arm's length and whoever lasted the longest won a $25 gift certificate to spend on anything at the ballpark - food, drink, souvenirs. Nine people entered, I finished 7th, I lasted just under 3 minutes. The guy who won lasted 5 1/2 minutes. My arm is still sore, a stein full of water is heavy. :o

Welp, the Astros have hit a huge slump. If the don't start hitting, there won't be any playoffs for them.

Thank you Colleen!! :D So far, so good.

Trip to Mom's was less than stellar. :( She was not having a good day. I could post the email I sent to my sister, but I think BN would explode. :-?

Went to the beer festival. We got to the park and it was pouring. VIP (we get in an hour earlier than the rest) registration is Noon, we can go in at 1:00. When 1:00 hit, the sun was shining again! :D There were probably 30+ breweries there. :D

Ahoy! That is a nice setting for a beer fest, Penny. :D

I found a ground nest of hornets while trimming today. They have not to live.

To quote Jack Nicholson, "Beer, it's the best damn drink in the world." Or Benjamin Franklin, "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

So... I'm flipping between my cooking shows, Broncos and Rockies. It's not 8:30, and I'm so tired from the day. Mom shopping and drama, beer fest (mind you they only pour about an ounce or two, but there many good ones tasted), putting dinner together, loading and unloading the dishwasher twice, laundry (with a fight to retrieve a hanger that fell behind the dryer). I'm done. Back hurts, and sleepiness setting in. Sleep sweet friends. :D

Well, that was fun. I think it was a delayed 4th of July celebration. Where there used to be an empty field, they are now building houses :( But for whatever reason, the town just had a fireworks show. Kids and parents from our building and a few others hung out on the sidewalk and watched. Best part of my day, besides the beer fest. :D

Rockies came back from a 3-0 deficit to win 5-3. Broncos are winning pre-season against the Bears 23-10.. E is asleep so missing it. G'night. :D
