Go Fly a Kite FRIDAY @ the MSC
Good Morning Folks!
It's NATIONAL KITE FLYING DAY (although there's no wind here in Lancaster County, PA)
Observed annually on February 8th, National Kite Flying Day is marked by kite flying enthusiasts across the country.
Kites date back to China in 470 B.C. China is full of lore and histories of the origins of the kite. Many are related to the way wind affects the leaves on the trees, the shelters they lived in, blowing away the sails on their ships and the hats they wore upon their heads. The stories also tell of kites being invented to spy on their enemies or to send messages.
There is also evidence that the people of South Sea Islands were using kites for fishing around the same time as the people of China.
Early kites were constructed from bamboo or sturdy reeds for framing. Leaves, silk or paper made ideal sails. Vines or braided fibers completed the line or tether. While kites were initially used as tools, they were also ceremonial as well. Used to send messages into the heavens or to lift offerings up to the gods, kites had a symbolic place in the culture.
Today kites are popular both as hobbies and for outdoor fun. They range from a simple diamond kite to more complicated box kites and giant sled kites. Stunt kites, also known as sport kites, are designed so the operator can maneuver the kite into dips, twists, and dives with dramatic effect.

Re: Go Fly a Kite FRIDAY @ the MSC
Good morning Linda. We had an old pasture on a hill north of town where we flew kites. A corner grocery store sold kites for a cheap price. An old man had a stool with a spool of kite line that he could sit on and feed out line. Whenever I saw a kite high above the hill, I knew it was him.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

I wish it were 33 here.
1 degree, with a wind chill of -21. More snow coming Sunday thru Thursday. Secondary roads still completely iced over.
I should pack a bathing suit and flip-flops and head for the North Pole.

Morning BNers
We finally made it home. I had a headache when we went to bed Wed but thought it would be gone in the morning.
Wrong
Starting feeling puke-y in LA. Started throwing up shortly after that. Which is hard to pull over when you are on interstate highways. Bless Larry, he managed to get stopped in time....until we got to the Houston area. Ryan found a plastic bag that I used the rest of the time.
I know TMI.
Did mention I also had diarrhea???
We got home and I fell on the couch and slept all night.
I am so glad whatever this is waiting until we started home from a great trip.

I was coming home after my daily walk in the park and there was a car in front of me with the license plate BEEJAY. I'm surprised DMV let that one through, the way my mind works BEEJAY = BJ = well, you know.

Re: Go Fly a Kite FRIDAY @ the MSC
All week long the weather guessers have been saying that we were going to get 6-8" of snow here in the Upper LH Corner starting at 12:00 today.
Hah! Shows how much they know.... it didn't start until 12:20.

They were wrong about the weather here too. It was supposed to be 75, it was 79. Twenty miles inland without the ocean breeze the high was 83. I had to turn the a/c on when I got home from the park.

Re: Go Fly a Kite FRIDAY @ the MSC
Hope you're feeling better, Molly. And I have to say I've never seen/heard of the word graupel. No weatherperson I know of have ever used it.
We got to the mid 30's today, and with the sunshine, more snow melted. Decent day for Winter. E and I went to dinner, and afterwards the wind picked up like crazy. If we had a kite, we could have flown it.
Went with Mexican food tonight.

Re: Go Fly a Kite FRIDAY @ the MSC
A loooong day today. Clocked in early and started processing flowers asap, finished processing by about 11:00. Then worked on today's orders until 1:30. Finally ate lunch then started on tomorrow's early funeral work till the other flowers arrived for processing at 4:00. In between all of that I was answering the phone and waiting on walk in customers. We processed the 1200 roses and other cut flowers from 4:00 till we finally finished and got things cleaned up and put in the coolers at 5:30. We were on fire! Off tomorrow, thankfully! Been chilling (literally, its 12 degrees here)with my feet up and enjoying some margaritas! Happy phriday!
