License To Chill on SI Video

Post by phjim »

The Tennessean has an article "No, Kenny won't be in a bikini" that mentions the title song from the new album "License To Chill" will be featured in a video and DVD for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.

Kenny and Jimmy Buffett cut a Caribbean-ish duet called License To Chill, a song for Buffett's upcoming album. Sports Illustrated likes it. The magazine likes it so much that its swimsuit issue models are featured in the music video. And a DVD of that same video will be included in each and every one of the 6 million copies printed.

This scares me a little... Jimmy is really going mainstream now that he is making videos. But what the hell, I know I'll be buying SI next month!

Agree.
This is going to be MASSIVE!
Not sure of it's impact on Buffettdom, crowd makeup at tailgates, ability to get tickets (and their COST on the after-market).
Certainly gonna be interesting to see this unfold. (no pun intended!!  )

Another reason to look foreward to the SI Swinsuit issue. Friends make fun of me because I tend to save them but I guess I will have to buy a DVD player now.
I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now!

hmmmm... is Jimmy jumping the shark?

Teaming up with Chesney... and a video with SI swimsuit models?
You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave

This is the video that was played in San Jose (Jimmy said we were the first to see it anywhere). More swimsuit models than Jimmy (which should please some of you, perhaps)

Hello, my first time posting, I read you guys converstions all the time. I just thought I'd put my two cents in about this new album. Its strating to look like Jimmy might be ditching us for country folk. What one song charts the country and off he goes? Is it all about the money (I started to think that when the gross shrip came out)? I think I'm goin need to hear clips of this album before I buy it. I hate country, dont mean to panic.........but it's not looking good.

It's not necessarily my opinion - merely asking the question!

I'm still in the Jimmy is a (tiki) God phase, and support all of his decisions, and trust he is doing what is best - for him, and for us!

I do anticipate the combination to lead to mega-airlpay of the video, and mega-airplay of the song, and mega buzz among all media outlets! I firmly believe Jimmy boarded a rocket ship with "Five O'Clock Somewhere", and his nationwide mainstream popularity is about to blast off!

I think we may all be over reacting a little bit here, it isnt like Jimmy is going to be on MTV, etc. It will appear on CMT. Jimmy isnt turning into Justin Timberlake, we are okay everyone!!!

SELL-OUT! Absolutely no other way to put it. He needs to advertise his music in SI issues? I always thought the last thing he wanted was a hit song. Seems to me like he's sure trying for one now. Of course I will buy the album, and the SI issue, but don't let that fool you into thinking I support this attempt at "making music for money."

Makin' Music For Money

When I woke up this mornin'
I was tired as I could be
I think I was countin' my money
When I should a' been countin' sheep

My agent he just called me
And told me what I should be
If I would make my music for money
Instead of makin' music for me

Chorus:
I said, 'I know that this may sound funny
But money don't mean nothin' to me
I won't make my music for money
No, I'm gonna make my music for me'

He said, 'The people only buy the love songs
Rock 'n' roll and not too long'
He said, 'Son you got to be commercial
If you want to turn the people on'

And I said, 'Turnin' on the people
Now that's a beautiful place to be
But if I spend my time makin' them up a rhyme
Well, who's gonna turn on me?'

Chorus

Well now I went up to Country
And I'll tell you all about the scene
I found a place with much charm and much grace
That wasn't touched by the music machine

Whoa, the people were havin' a good time
Makin' music all day long
And nobody cared if they ever got paid
One penny for playin' a song
We'll party just like Bubba does,
We'll do the Old Man proud!
