jokelben probably going to have to go away for a while
Unless I can convince my hosting provider that I'm not doing anything illegal...
Any ideas?
Thanks!

What kind of bandwidth and usage do you require? What was your current host charging for that bandwidth?
I know of a few options .... I've used these guys .... http://www.resellerspanel.com/
Located in the UK but they have terrific panels and tools and US toll free tech support.
Easy setup and starter. I use them not as a reseller but as my own host for my projects.

Re: jokelben probably going to have to go away for a while
Why is jokelben suddenly illegal after nearly 3 year in existence?
There are a large number of live music trading sights such as ebtree and others that are completely legal. So why is jokelben different
Bobtu, send a PM to Sunlover and ask if the shows can be moved to his server until you can find a new home for jokelben.

Re: jokelben probably going to have to go away for a while
Since the site has been online for so long, my guess is it is not related to copyright issues. I was looking at the AUP at his hosting site. It could be related to an item about unrelated storage. This is regarding files that are hosted but are not used specifically for website operation. It appears to be used as personal file storage or general business data storage similar to mozy.com and others. Accounts at the jokelben hosting site that are over 5GB are subject to this audit.

This kind of thing is what caused the holylands server run by the Buffettmp3 group to be closed a little over a year ago.SunLover wrote:Since the site has been online for so long, my guess is it is not related to copyright issues. That is exactly correct... I was attempting to upload some files for a temporary backup (didn't know I couldn't do that) and they flagged that... once they got looking they saw the buffett stuff and asked that I either deleate that or provide proof that I had rights to distribute it.

Re: jokelben probably going to have to go away for a while
Proving you have the rights to distribute could be difficult since multiple people have uploaded files to the server over the last 2 years or so. Most of the concert files from 1999 to the present are from freely available RM broadcasts while the earlier shows are from a variety of other sources. You are only providing storage space for the files those who do the uploads are the ones who are actually distributing the shows.bobtu wrote:SunLover wrote:Since the site has been online for so long, my guess is it is not related to copyright issues. Bottom line is the live concerts are being distributed by RM without a warning about redistribution so I don't believe you need rights to redistribute the shows. Afterall Sunlover and Spooner are doing the same thing on different FTP servers without problem or issue.

Re: jokelben probably going to have to go away for a while
Yikes!!!! This is terrible news!!!! Jokelben has been my "wikipedia" for Jimmy's material since I got such a late start as a PH. I use it all the time. It would be unAmerican to close down the site. What are these people thinking? Is there anything we can do to help you keep the site up and running?
Re: jokelben probably going to have to go away for a while
We need to find a new safe and secure home for the contents of the jokelben server. I checked out a few yesterday and saw some possibles such as mediafire and couple of others. It's just a matter of finding the right location and then moving the files from jokelben to the now locationrmissbrook wrote:Yikes!!!! This is terrible news!!!! If you need any help, let me know. I've got a bad shoulder, so I wouldn't be much good with the physical moving of files, but I'd be happy to contribute in other ways.

Re: jokelben probably going to have to go away for a while
I just got done backing everything up (I do weekly backups of everything off the server to ensure all your hard work doesn't get lost.) and took the site down.urlcenter wrote:We need to find a new safe and secure home for the contents of the jokelben server. Hopefully the powers that be close their ticket and go away. If this doesn't work I"ll look for another spot to host my other domains and web sites (the buffett stuff is just something I do on the side... I like lunarpages because I don't have to worry about bandwidth... so hopefully they do go away)

Re: jokelben probably going to have to go away for a while
Thanks for backing everything up that was one of my big worries. Hopefully a new home can be found prior to Jimmy's next show on 6/18 which is at Greatwoods. All of the last 4-5 years of shows are on Sunlovers server maybe you and he can work something out.bobtu wrote:I just got done backing everything up (I do weekly backups of everything off the server to ensure all your hard work doesn't get lost.) and took the site down.urlcenter wrote:We need to find a new safe and secure home for the contents of the jokelben server. Thanks for the quick work on looking for alternatives. Another techy here if some last-minute technical scrambling help is needed.

The treasure box is a collection of rare Buffett songs, either studio or live versions. It includes some rehearsal or test tracks that he recorded before finalizing the songs for album release.
