High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee
No 412 squadron, RCAF
Killed 11 December 1941

My earliest memory ever is of the first moon landing. I was 5 years old. It was a family baby shower. The whole party came to a halt as we all crammed around this little black and white tv to see the walk on the moon.
If anybody is interested I just finished a book for class called " Moondust, In Search of the Men Who Fell to Earth." It's all about the era, what became of the men afterwards, and the impressions it had on the author at the time who was around 10. Good read. It hels to see just how brave these men really were, how much risk was involved. How much they didn't really know what would happen.

Sail On, Sir.... Sail On....
Truly you were a special breed of Man, You had the "RIGHT STUFF" at the right time. We need many more like you.
You may be gone from us, but your legacy, your demonstrations of courage, flying the edge of the envelope, your records, and the "RIGHT STUFF" will forever live on.
You lived a long and full life doing what you loved. Not many can hold that claim.
Sail On.
