Hello Everyone. With school startting back my primetime television vewing time will be limited, so I was thinking about investing in a DVR service to record my favorite shows to watch them later. It will be about 20 bucks or so with taxes and everything to add it to my service.
How many of you have it? Do you like it? Is it worth it?
Season pass through TiVo is so cool. You tell it what show and it records the entire season, but no repeats.
I know that DishNetwork is having legal battles with TiVo about their DVR, so I'd be sure to ask them about that first, if you were going their direction.
We got ours through our cable company for a small monthly fee ($5 I think). It's an HD box also. It has dual tuners so you can watch one thing and record another...or record 2 shows if you aren't at home.
We don't like to arrange our schedules around a tv show. I can't imagine turning down dinner with friends to watch a show.
But, there are so few things on we actually would like to see.
It works out well...the DVR records what we like...when we have a night where we do sit down at the tv...we have shows we like on when we want them...and we can skip the commercials!!

dual tuners? Does it have more than one cable plugged into the back?

Now that I have one I don't think that I could go without. It makes watching favorite shows available when I want so as to untie me from having to be home when they show. Another side benifit of mine is that it also has a Cable Modem in it (which I don't need but might be handy to someone).

When we bought our HDTV in May Cox offered 1 month free DVR service to test drive it sorta speak. 4 months later there is no way in the world we could live without it.
Personally Cox as a cable company is horrible but DVR service is well worth the 4.95 a month they charge. You have less recording hours with HD but you don't lose the HD quality when it is saved to the hard drive. The other great feature is you can transfer the DVR recording to your VCR if you still have one or your DVD recorder.

I don't know what I would do without it! I had TiVo for a year, but just switched to my cable provider one, which was only $6 a month (half price of TiVo). The new one has the dual tuner, so I can tape and watch or tape 2 shows at once. Some of the shows are cut in half since you can fly on by the commercials! Plus, you tell it to record the whole series and you don't have to remeber to program it every week like you had to on a VCR! Love it, Love it, Love it!!!!!!
I don't know how I lived without it. It just tapes everything you want it too.
I don't know how many times I'm watching something LIVE and hit the rewind to see something I missed or need to hear again. It's AWESOME!! Get it!! For football season it's like having your own instant reply on any play.

Some times I feel like a propeller, spin, spin outtta control. I don't who is up on the throttle, boy I wish they would let it go....
