Anybody Watching Studio 60?

Post by bravedave »

The episode last night made references to the "Who's On First" routine made famous by Abbott & Costello.

Here's a link to the script of the routine. Just try reading it out loud without laughing. Classic.

"Who's on First" is great. Two kids at my daughter's school did it for the talent show a few years ago. They were in 7th grade and were FLAWLESS.

Always, funny.

I like the new show a lot though it has not been doing well in the ratings-hopefully some more pholks will discover it!

I had high hopes for this show but now it's like watching a train wreck.
The acting and writing is so smug.
If NBC is willing to spend all that money on a prime time drama about a comedy show being revamped why not spend the money and revamp SNL.

Enjoy it while it lasts, this show will be cancelled by New Years. The ratings have gone down every week, right now they're at about 1/2 what the premiere episode got, and it's one of the most expensive shows on TV to produce. It's history.

That routine is brilliant and stands the test of time. Absoutly brilliant.

They had a girl from Deal or no Deal on. The story line with Who's on First was bad I don't buy that the kids dad never heard the Abbott & Costello routine.

I read last week that it had a guaranteed # of episodes that were to be shown. I watched one episode, I thought it sucked.

I'm pretty sure it has been pulled from the NBC lineup for the upcoming November ratings period which starts a week from Wednesday.

I like the show. I think it is smart and witty. I also hear it is getting yanked. They will probably put on some reality crap with no talent to pay, low budget, etc. These dramas and sitcoms that cost money to make are going the wayside of crap game shows, C level celebrity shows, and overdone reality TV that are all very cheap to get on the air. Pretty soon we will be watching two people play rock paper scissors in front of a live studio audience for 500k a week.

I also enjoy the show ... but then again I was a big fan of West Wing and and liked Sorkin's first show "Sports Night" even better.

With NBC having two different "takes" on the air now based on SNL, I figure only one will be renewed. Studio 60 seems so much better than that dumb thing with Alex Baldwin ... but I am guessing the latter will be the one to survive. :-?

That is what it is based off of. NBC had a shot to pull people over to SNL by having this show in Prime Time.

As for the ratings, one reason for the drop is that it is now slotted against "What About Brian". "Studio 60" got a week head start to try and hook viewers. However, sex and scandal sells, so "What About Brian" caught the "Desperate Housewives" crowd.

I think they'll give it a season to take (kinda like Joey)

I've been watching, and I still can't see WHY we should be liking these characters, save the director played by Timothy Busfield who,
with D.L. Hughley's character, seems to be the only ones with any real depth.

Speaking of SNL, is anybody watching 30 Rock ?
I think Tina Fey's luck may have run out

Joey actually ran a couple of seasons, though I may never understand why.

I watched the first episode of 30 Rock having heard so much about how funny the first episode was---I thought it was awful.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Studio 60-it certainly is not as good as West Wing was, and with NBC's cost cutting plan to put reality and quiz shows on more, and with what has to be the high payroll for this show, it does not bode well. However, it got so much press, so much critical acclaim, and it has the name Aaron Sorkin behind it so maybe they will give it a chance to make it.
