In a pot on the stove for me (and I even remember to put the lid on most times) ... with a little olive oil and salt.. that's it. I don't like microwave popcorn.

Garry, this may be a silly question.....but does popping it in coconut oil make it taste coconut-y?

I keep microwave corn on hand for convenience and spur-of-the-moment munchies, but if I know I'm going to settle in with a movie and a tall cold one, I'll cook up a batch with the electric popper. A little oil, quarter-cup of Orville's, set it over the heating coil, and wait for it. Requires you to be a part of the cooking, too, so you don't burn it.

Then, after I've made up a suitably-sized bowlful, melt a little butter in the cooker and pour it over the top. I now have to skip the salt (hypertension sucks!), and for that matter should probably skip the butter too, but we're all gonna die sometime and I'd just as soon live a little while I'm still here. Since I'm being a good boy by holding the salt I'll 'cheat' a little with the butter.

Top favorite is on the stove. Second is the air popper, with butter/salt added. Third would be a tie with movie and microwave. :D

But some great ideas with the olive oil, and Tabasco. :D I love Tabasco on the popped corn, also Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, or cayenne pepper. :D

I'm convinced the people that didn't vote for Kettle corn have never actually had it. Love that good sweet corn in a kettle, although I prefer it in a mason jar. :pirate:

For me? I have had it. :) It's ok, but I don't like mixing salty and sweet.

I've had it too, and don't really care for it. But, sometimes I do crave a little sweet with my popcorn, that's when I dump a handful of plain M&Ms in the bowl. :D

Garry, this may be a silly question.....but does popping it in coconut oil make it taste coconut-y?
A little bit, yes.
It's what gives popcorn the "movie theater" smell and taste.
For EONS, movie theaters popped their popcorn in coconut oil until a few years ago when all the pencil-necked geeks of the food police gathered in front of many movie theaters and protested that "unhealthy" practice of making popcorn. (These are the same baffoons who die before they're 40 because they're malnourished and suffer from severe cases of anorexia). EXCUSE ME, but I don't think people go to the movie theater to lose weight and get healthy. :x

Ever since I was 15, I've always popped my own popcorn and I use nothing BUT coconut oil, my arteries be damned. (I'm nearly 58 years old-what's it going to do? KILL me)?

I mean, it isn't as if people go to movie theaters and GORGE on the stuff.
They buy a box or bag of it, they share, and that's that! Once or twice a month on average.

But I haven't been to a movie in a theater in well over ten years.
Not because they don't make their popcorn in coconut oil anymore-I don't go because all the movie theaters smell like urine. ALL of them.
Plus there's the bozos who yack on their cell phone during the entire movie, screaming 2 & 3 year olds, it just makes the whole thing a bad night out.

If there's a movie I want to see, I simply wait for it to come out on DVD, and then I go BUY it.

There you have it.
Any MORE questions?
