sail on, Smokin' Joe
and yes he was too young to leave us at 67.
this liver cancer stuff is really freaking me out lately.
A co-worker of mine died last month, only 3 1/2 weeks after the discovery of his cancer...he was just 44.
...gotta respect our young selves just a bit more.

Good bye to one of the greats.
Boxing today isn't what it once was when this man
was fighting. I miss those days.

Smokin' Joe ... Ken Norton (the broken jaw fight) .... Muhammad Ali.
The Thrilla in Manila.
Heck .... even Duane Bobick and Larry Holmes.
The 1970s were great. The '76 Olympic Team:
Sugar Ray leonard (and his girlfriend's photo taped to his sock).
The Spinks brothers ...... Michael and Leon.
And title fights meant something, because all we really had
was one damn belt ..... the WBA.

October 1st, 1975, Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, (Manila), Philippines.
What a THRILLA it was for me to be there.
A friend and I got our tickets from Special Services on the Naval Base at Subic Bay, Philippines, $10.00 each.
You all know the rest of the story.
Sail on, Big Joe.
