Post by ragtopW »

so tell me. does anyone buy anything from Door to Door sales men?

I mean besides the kids with candy or cookies :P :D :D :D

I mean I think the last thing I bought was one of those cards "spend $25 and get 4 free oil changes"
but would you buy a service (cell phone,TV,internet,Cable. ETC?)
or a big ticket item (Kirby,Rainbow..ETC)
please do tell

Oh Hell no. We get periodic streams of "gypsies" selling everything
from frozen steaks ("we just happen to have extras that I can let go for a song")
to paving ("we noticed your driveway needs repair and we happen to be in the neighborhood doing another job")
to siding, windows, tree services, landscaping.

You can leave a flyer in my door but you'd better have real references and all of
the proper county licenses before I will even consider talking to you.

And don't tell me you'll bring the licenses next time ...
YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO HAVE THEM WITH YOU.

If you don't ... you're a con man and a phony and get the hell off my lawn.

Girl scout cookies, and, in the last year, local merchant discount cards from the high school football team.
You only have two options - havin' fun or freakin' out...

I was torn between "No way" and "Not a Chance" for a second, but I went with "No Way".
A while back I put on small "No Soliciting" sign on my door and it's worked like a charm.

I generally won't even open the door.

Girl Scout cookies aren't sold door to door around here anymore. Only place I have been able to get them is outside the grocery store on a Saturday during the time they are on sale.

Also don't buy anything from phone solicitors....ever! Had one selling replacement windows, and when I indicated we had replaced the windows, he asked "All of them?" to which I responded, sarcastically, "No, we saved one just for you!)

We get 3 things regularly: Mormons, Comcast & Windows/Siding. Occasionally we get someone trying to sell magazines for their school. I wish they'd all leave us the hell alone. It's never, ever someone I'd give a dime to.

I don't know if I would necessarily buy them, but I would probably *rent* boobies from a door-to-door saleswoman....... :P

No one comes to my door to sell anything. I must be doing something right to keep them away.

So, I guess we must be crazy....we will buy subs from the high school football team but they really haven't come around in a few years. We very seldom get any door to door people selling anything.

At my last apartment on Long Island I never had to worry about door-to-door salesmen. The building was locked and if you didn't have a key you had to get buzzed into the lobby by a tenant.

In my younger days I was blasting 2 live Crew's "We want some ##$$y" in my house when the Jehovah's Witnesses knocked.
I thought it was my brother so I left the music blasting when I opened the door.
They never came back.

do door to door salesmen still exist???? I haven't seen one of those in years. Maybe it's the society we live in now, with all these scams and home invasions always occurring in and around my area.

I just answer the door with a large obvious sidearm hanging on my belt. They get nervous real quick, and a polite no gets rid of them. I also indicate that my mom's house next door is off limits as well. Twice in the past year this has caused salesman to leave without bothering the rest of the street. Occasionally, in the summer, if I am outside with a few beers in me, I have a little fun with it. Offer them a beer, and when they decline tell them I just don't trust anyone that doesn't need a few beers to be happy, then just walk away and start up a lawnmower, chainsaw, or whatever loud gas engine is nearby and pretend to be busy with it until they leave.

Edit to add: I guess the short answer is no, I never buy anything from them. I get my girl scout cookies from my friends kids, and I have never seen them go door to door anyway.

They'll knock on my door if I'm inside, but for some reason if I'm out
in my front yard they just hurry by. :pirate:

A D2D salesman sold me the Hutzler 571 Banana Slicer, and couldn't be more pleased with the way it slices all bananas (except the left-handed ones)
