What should we *avoid* doing in Key West?

This is a travelogue area for places to visit, stay, eat, etc...

What should we *avoid* doing in Key West?

Post by Rob N Kim »

Assuming the storms don't wipe it off the map, we're going to KW in a couple of weeks. In reading here I've found lots of thread discussing Key West with advice on place to go and things to do, so we're already compiling a list of suggestions.

Are there any places/tours/etc that are ripoffs that should be avoided though? We won't have time/money to do everything available in KW, so we want to make sure we don't waste any of either if possible. :)

good question. I'm also leaving for KW in a couple weeks. I've already got $700 worth of tickets/admissions planned for us.....

any possible ripoffs would be good to know

Getting toooo drunk and taking the woman that looks like a man or the man that looks like a woman back to your hotel!!! :o I had a friend do this once against warnings and he found out that the that might have looked like a man was a man! He came up with some lame excuses, but after that he avoided a certain bar on Duval st.

It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving

I don't remember the name of this place, but don't order one of these monster hotdogs unless you have help.

Oh yeah, and don't stand under a coconut palm in a high wind. :)

Given that I'm going with my wife, I think the odds are pretty slim that I'll be picking up anyone and taking them back to my hotel. :)

It's on the same side of Duval as Sloppy Joe's in the area of the Blond Giraffe key lime pie stand. You look in the door and you can see the garden in the back through lots of plants. I'm going to try and get an address for you from the credit card statement.

This little guy joined me for lunch. Unfortunately I didn't take any more pictures of the place. :(

Well this obviously would be affected by the weather but one of those champagne sunset cruises that are offered are a good deal, if you make them one. It's around $30 a person for a couple of hours. You get to see the gorgeous sunset while drinking champagne, wine or a selection of beer. If you figured it in bar terms, Coronas are always at least $4, sometimes more. Depending one how much you drink, you could actually break even, but you might need help getting off the boat.
Maybe it's because in spite of all the work we do, it's the child in us we really value.
