New York City.....Top 5-10 things to do/see???
Wife is talking about maybe making a trip to NYC. Statue of Liberty and WTC site would be on the must see list. What else would rate as the top things to see or do in a week's time?

Chinatown, Little Italy, and Katz's Deli (yea, I like to eat...and NYC is the best place for eating).
Usually do dinner in Chinatown (one of the hole-in-the-wall kinda places), shoot over to Little Italy for desert.
Katz's makes ridiculous sandwiches.
Empire State Bldg is also a cool touristy thing to do.

try the Staten Island Ferry. Best value and some of the best views in the city.

my top 5:
1.Yankee Stadium
2.Yankee Stadium
3.Yankee Stadium
4.Yankee Stadium
5. Madsion Square Garden
seriosuly though Statue of Liberty, Empire state, Ground Zero. Those tourist buses are really a good way to see the city in my opinion. You can hop on an doff so you can experience what you want to. Most NYers hate those buses but they're good for what they are.

if you like pizza definately go to Lombardis on the corner of Spring St. and Mott St. down town http://www.lombardispizza.com. There will most likely be a line to get in but i rate this as the best pizza in NY and most likely the world.
1. Lombardis
2. Top of the Empire State Bldg.
3. Ground Zero
4. Statue of Liberty
5. Times Square, just to walk around
6. Walk Greenwich Village/SoHo/China Town/Little Italy(not all in one day)
7. Yankee Stadium (the most famous building in sports)
8. Take in a musuem
(MoMA, The Met, The Natural History or any of the many others.)
9. Talk a walk up Madison Ave., and maybe stop in at Tiffanys.
10.................

1. See a broadway show!
2. Take a walk through Central Park and see Strawberry Fields
3. Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art
4. Have dinner in Little Italy
5. If you're new to NYC and don't have transportation, I suggest those red double-decker buses! They drop off and pick up all over Manhattan.
6. Visit the Empire State Building (but plan on this being a half day thing -it was a long line, so go early!)
7. Just WALK around! It's cheap, good exercise and you see alot of the city that way!

Much better than the Empire State Building is the newly reopened observation deck on the top of Rockefeller Center, ....and you order tickets in advance for specific times, so you wont have long lines
This is one of my very favorite places in the city--the best time is sunset and when the night lights are coming on...
www.topoftherocknyc.com
another favorite is the boat ride around Manhattan (3 hours) or one in NY harbor (shorter)
www.circleline42.com
I've lived in nyc for many years and remember how exciting my first visits were...so much to see and do
Have a wonderful time!!!

I've been to NYC twice, both times I saw Jimmy on the TODAY Show, in 2004 and 2006. Afterwards we headed to Times Square for lunch. Times Square is definitely worth checking out, even if you only drive/ride through. The rest of the suggestions sound great too. Those are some places I'd like to check out, but I don't get to NYC often enough.

You're going for a week? We usually only go for a day or two and get a whole lot done. If you've never been there, plan out your day on a map first. You can walk pretty much everywhere, depending on where you're staying. We drive up, park the car, and then walk or cab it everywhere.
Great hotel: Travel Inn http://www.thetravelinnhotel.com/
42nd between 9th & 10th (like 3 blocks from Times Square)
Rockefeller Center (especially at Christmastime)

Times Square
Madame Tussaud's Wax museum (didn't want to go...was glad I did)
http://www.madame-tussauds.com/
Tiffanys
Bloomingdales
St. Patricks Cathedral
Broadway show
PM me if you need any info, we go on a regular basis

I went in April.....when you go to see the Statue, get there early. They only sell a limited number of tickets to go inside the statue (but you can't go to the top any more) and by the time we got there around 11 a.m., they were already sold out. We could go to the island and walk around, but not inside the statue.
Also, be prepared for a LONG line to get on the ferry....we waited for an hour and a half just to get on the boat.
If you're looking for something a little different--we went to the Bronx Zoo. A very nice zoo, though it takes a while to get out there. But it will easily take up a whole day....it's a much bigger zoo than I expected and we didn't get through it all before they closed.

Broadway Play
Little Italy
Yankee Stadium
Museum of Natural History
Madison Square Garden
WTC site
Central Park
Times Square
Rockafeller Plaza

I was going to suggest this. It's the building where I work but I haven't been up there yet.1 CP wrote:Much better than the Empire State Building is the newly reopened observation deck on the top of Rockefeller Center, ....and you order tickets in advance for specific times, so you wont have long lines

Please don't come to Rockefeller Plaza in the morning during the Today Show, it's crowded enough already. Or at least wait until after about 8:15, I'll be in my office by then.
You should check the schedule for BB Kings Blues Club in Times Square. They have some pretty good bands there and some of the shows are cheap. I saw Sonny Landreth there last year for $21.
Greenwich Village, lots of little restaurants and clubs, a lot of live music.
And just for people watching, take a stroll along 5th Avenue in midtown.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

Everyone has made some *great* suggestions.
In Times Square you can go to the TKTS booth and get same day show tickets at a discounted rate. You won't find the top/sold out shows but I've been pleasantly surprised taking in shows that I've really never heard of.
Also, if you go to Ground Zero - PLEASE do NOT stand by the fence and smile if you want a picture. If I go down there one more time and there is someone standing by the fence smiling I don't think that I will be able to control myself
(I'm sure that you won't but don't be surpised when you see it for yourself)

All great things to do and see.
You didn't say if you will be renting a car. You don't really need one if you are staying in Manhattan and limiting your touring to NYC.
But may I suggest the ultimate view of Manhattan? NEW JERSEY! A sunset dinner at the Chart House in Weehawken, NJ will give you a beautiful panoramic view of Manhattan.
And you might want to consider staying at a hotel in New Jersey. Much cheaper than NYC, yet close. Price difference should more than make up for car rental. Secaucus is a good choice. http://affiliates.travelhero.com/index. ... index.html . "Secaucus is exceptionally well located for business travelers and tourists. Manhattan is less than five miles away -- so close that some guides put these hotels in their New York listings. Express buses serve most hotels, carrying passengers directly to the Port Authority Bus Terminal near Times Square in Manhattan -- about 15 minutes away." So you wouldn't have to drive into Manhattan or park there.
Also located in Secaucus, in Harmon Meadow Plaza, is a Cheesebuger in Paradise. http://www.cheeseburgerinparadise.com/d ... caucus.asp Hey, if Secaucus is good enough for Jimmy...!
And Newark Liberty International Airport is just ten miles away, so it gives you an additional airport choice.
We did this once when we went to Boston, i.e., stayed just outside the city. It worked for us!

If you are staying the weekend after the MSG concert, the Res Sox will be at Yankee Stadium. My first time there will be extra special!!!
