How much time do you have and how far up Gulf Boulevard do you want to drive?

Start at Pass a Grille and work your way north up the beach. Jimmy B's, The Toasted Monkey, Ricks Reef. Woodys, Shark Tales, our personal favorite is Caddys on the beach. Hit Johns Pass, Gators, The Sea Hag. These are all pretty much on or near Gulf Boulevard.

I'd also suggest crossing the Skyway, and exploring Anna Maria Island, Bradenton Beach, Longboat Key, St Armands, and Siesta Key. All are beautiful with lots of spots too.

Thank you for the suggestions! We're heading down from 3/28-4/4 and staying at the Alden. We've stayed there a long time ago and we spent a few days in Treasure Island last year, but it's been quite a while to figure out some good hangouts.

As of now we do have a Skyway day trip on the list..I've always been intrigued by the Anna Maria area and I'm curious to check it out.

St. Pete and the Gulf beaches are always our 'poor man's alternative' to KW. I'm disappointed not to be heading back to KW, but ready for some warm weather, nonetheless!

The Alden has been going thru renovations in stages over the past few years. You should try to get a gulf view suite on one of the higher floors. These were renovated last year and are very nice. The Alden also has their own BBQs on the 2nd floor above one of the pools so you can grill and relax right there with a few cold beverages. You'll easily be able to walk up the beach to the toasted monkey and Jimmy Bs. You can walk down the beach to the Trade Winds too. They have a lot of cool water toys you can rent. There are also several dolphin watches and Gulf cruises that will pick you up right on the beach at the Alden so check those out too. Also, hit Larry's Ice Cream, it's very good.

We live not far from Anna Maria and quite simply put, we think it's heaven. There are no high rise buildings, or major corporate retail areas. All small mom and pop places. Check out the Sand Bar restaurant and Mr Bones BBQ there. Head south a bit on Gulf Boulevard and explore the Cortez area and Bradenton Beach. Our favorite places in the world. We like the Swordfish Grill, Beach House, and Tide Tables. The Blue Marlin is our absolute favorite. You can also head a bit further south to Siesta Key which is also quite nice. Let me know if you want anything else specific to the area.

If you are thinking of moving here, we are getting one of the Margaritaville lifestyle resorts in Bradenton. Its on the causeway heading to Anna Maria if you want to check it out.

All great suggestions! Gosh I miss those parts!

When I stayed at the Beachcomber Resort in January 2017, they gave me a buy one get one drink coupon for Spinners Rooftop Revolving Bistro. I had visited the area numerous times over the previous 10 years, and never even knew it was there! I thoroughly enjoyed the 360 degree bird's eye view from the revolving dining room, for a sunny lazy lunchtime something different! http://www.grandplazaflorida.com/dining/spinners

When in the area, I always have to have a breakfast at Ricky T's... good bloody marys and mimosas, and I just love their chipped beef on toast. The Southern Combo... YUM!!

Don't forget to visit Gulfport for some Old Florida feeling fun - they've got a nice string of good beach bars as well.

Have fun!

You guys are awesome. We had a great stay and hit Jimmy B’s, Toasted Monkey, PCI, The Salty Rim, Crabby Bill’s, and a long time favorite for dinner, Skidders.

We were gulfront at the Alden but unfortunately there was miscommunication with our booking, and we ended up in a deluxe rather than a renovated room. If anyone else goes, trust me, you want the renovation! Other than that, our view was incredible and great location. The grounds, pools, and beach were spotless and checked on multiple times.

Next year we have Anna Maria on the list. Can’t wait for that.

Was gonna chime in but just realized you were already back. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. One of our favorites along Gulf Blvd is Kooky Coconut up in IRB. That is going to be my stomping grounds soon. We bought a place is Seminole, mile away from the beach in Indian Shores. RIPH I'll have to look you up since we'll be semi-neighbors. We were actually looking at a place in the Preserves (which I imagine is near you) but it fell through and we ended up in Pinellas County.

IRB was my mom and dad's favorite beach SDQ. They lived in Largo right off Ulmerton for a long time.

Been to Kooky a few times in the past. Were you looking at the Preserves in Lakewood Ranch?

Robinson Preserves just off Manatee and 75th. Almost pulled the trigger on a place the the idea of easier access to jobs in the St. Pete area is why we decided on Pinellas County, basically Park & Oakhurst. We will be able to move in to our place Jan. 1 but will hopefully move down sooner than that into a rental. Just depends on the job situation.

Well, we're back in the area in late March! Staying in IRB this year for a week. Looking forward to something what I hope is a bit less commercial than what St. Pete has grown into. Looks like solid restaurant options, too.

Much less commercial up in IRB. We now live just a mile off the beaches of Indian Shores. Up that way Crabby Bills and Caddy's on the Bay are always packed. We are beer snobs so we enjoy going to John's Pass for the Mad Beach Brewing Company.

Yep, down here full time now. Did you get you place in the One Particular Harbor area in Bradenton yet? I think we are planning on taking a stroll through there Saturday.
