Your favorite Beatle (before and after)?

Post by bestseller92 »

Just as (according to Quentin Tarantino in "Pulp Fiction") there are Elvis people and Beatles people, and that you can like them both but not equally (I'm actually an Elvis guy), I think that every Beatles' fan, even the casual ones, always have a favorite Beatle.

Taking into account their Beatles' days and their post-Beatles' careers, which is YOUR favorite Beatle?

I'd have to go with Paul McCartney. He wrote a lot of the best of the Beatles' songs, and his post-Beatles' career is unmatched by any of the other three. I'm sitting listening to his "Give My Regards to Broad Street" album (from 1984) as I type this.
"In self-defense and in defense of the innocent, killing is not murder, hesitation is not moral, and cowardice is the only sin". -- page 306, "The Darkest Evening of the Year", Dean R. Koontz.

Ringo was, is, and always will be my "favorite." While not the most musically gifted of the group, he got by and he's just fliippin cool.

However, PAUL IS THE CUTEST.

My wife & I had the pleasure of attending a concert last evening by Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles. Went with another friend who is as big a Beatles fan as I am a Buffett fan. He loved it as we did. They really put on quite a stage production of the various stages of the Beatles musical career. All music was done live and very authentic. If this group tours near you definitely give some thought to going. Here's their web site: http://www.raintribute.com/

Although I like John's work, I might have voted differently had he not been killed so long ago. George, very talented too, I liked some of his post Beatle stuff, again, its a shame he's no longer with us. But my vote went to Paul, I think he has had a much better solo career and the Beatles wouldn't have been the same without him. Ringo..not a huge fan here.

Gotta Go with Ringo.

Joins a band after their original drummer decides to stay with his German girlfriend, band goes big.
tours with arguably-best band of his era, as the drummer, tho talent-wise, he's no Keith Moon.
band disintegrates amidst massive ego clashes between the whimsically-cute one and the intellectual one. He still gets a song or two on the albums sliding in under the radar.
continues to tour, and do enough cocaine to kill a herd of moose. Best song written during this period of his life: The No No Song.
Decides to try his hand at acting in a non-Beatles movie.. ends up meeting a Bond girl and impressing her enough that she marries him. Said Bond Girl even sticks with him during massive drinking and cocaine-fueled benders, and gets him to dry out.
Continues to tour, and get good musicians to join his All-Starr Band
Dabbles in artwork, gets his own line of designer credit-cards
Meets Marge Simpson.

Being one of those golden oldies who was there at the beginning, I was a BIG TIME Beatles fan. They were to me then what Jimmy Buffett is to me now.

I loved them all for different reasons.

I always thought John Lennon had the most raw talent of the four.

I always thought Paul McCartney was far and away the most creative.

I always thought George Harrison definately had the best singing voice. (I LOVE his songs "I Need You", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Something," and "Here Comes the Sun").

I always thought Ringo Starr was the best at just being himself and, after reading their life stories 800 ga-zillion times, he was the one I most closely identified with.

For that reason, Ringo was always my "favorite" Beatle.

I'm a George fan. Always liked his songs, his approach to music always touched a part of my soul that the rest missed.

Ringo is probably the most underrated member of the band. According to numerous drummers, he is one of the best because he managed to fill where and when a fill was needed and to let the drums be silent when needed and he did it all on a very small kit. It is true that he wasn't a Keith Moon, he was Ringo Starr, he didn't have to overpower the rest of the band to make his presence felt in the music.
