Pretty big stretch there...I have beeen going to LV to see JB since 96, and both spring and fall are always packed. I dont know who started this thing about fall being the "real" time he plays. He has split it up many times and has always packed the venue....

Fellow Boise parrothead, I drive a red silverado 2500, had those plates since 96. You a member of the TVPHC? We (quite a few members) dont like where they are heading/headed, so we might start another club. Keep you posted.
No Vegas JB show has ever been made up largely of locals....if there's ever more than 2000 locals in the Grand Garden, I'd be surprised. More than any other stop on the tour, Las Vegas concerts depending upon travelers.....they weren't there in May and I doubt they'd be there in October (for even one show yet alone two)

sd parrot head wrote:Why doesn't Jimmy step up to the plate and do a press release and tell his fans what the hell is going on. I still do not understand why he cancelled the entire month of October. I can see cancelling one weekend in LV but why both. When he is in town playing Margaritaville has to make four times plus the revenue of a regular weekend, and from experience the store sells out of everything. The shelves are bare by Sunday. Besides the money he is making on ticket sales he is making millions over he weekend on food, booze and tee shirts.

There's a chance he may not be able to tell us whats going on....perhaps something is being worked on and details can't be divulged yet. Should he have waited another month to cancel the shows if this is the case?

Perhaps he tending to a personal matter during October. Not that I'm suggesting any of these conditions are the reason (so please don't start rumors)....but what if Jimmy is going in to rehab, having marraige counseling, or getting treatment for a serious health problem? If its personal, is he obligated to tell us? (I don't believe so).

What if the MGM is the cause of the cancellations? Do you want Jimmy to point fingers at them, get them p***, and possibly lose any future Vegas dates as a result?

If Jimmy felt comfortable telling us the reason for the cancellations, I'm sure something would be said. The fact that nothing has been said makes me believe there's a reason for it. Thats good enough for me.

I want to add "when they're probably not thrilled with him anyway for his deal with Harrahs that will directly compete with them in Biloxi and now his own casino in Atlantic City just to add insult to injury" to that.

Although the Priceline winning bids did seem to indicate that things were more full last weekend than this one, which seems backwards to me (last weekend people were getting the Trump for 5* North Strip, this weekend they were getting the Wynn for less money).

WoW! some of y'all are really serious.....

do any of you on the West coasters think that Buffett is too stupid to not know the uproar that cancelling these shows was going to bring?

He will either allow an explanation, or he won't. Very simple.

He doesn't owe any of us anything. He's a private person.

next thing, someone will be telling/suggesting what they want, or don't want him to play at his concerts....
We pretty much do tell him what we want him to play at concerts. Believe me, if it doesn't go over with the crowd he won't play it over and over again to try to slam it if it doesn't work. That's the nature of the business. It's us fans that makes it all happen. [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]

Are you serious???? Do you really think he cares what "you" want him to play, and where you prefer to see him play those songs? Do you remember him playing "On the Road Again" a couple years ago to open every show and the posts that said the song sucked, please stop playing it? What about the posts this year that say Yellow submarine sucks? He played it again Thursday night. Rainy Day Women, Future Has Been Defeated......I could go on and on, but the point is, he plays what he wants to play, not what his fans say sounds good, or want to hear.
Have you ever wondered why he calls out to "the lawn people" at almost every show, but not the front row where all the hard core fans who travel across country to see him repeatedly sit???? It's because it's the casual fans that pay his bills, not the few thousand who post here, or similar sites.
It's a Jimmy Buffett Show.....not a Jimmy Buffett fan appreciation show. He plays where he wants, and what he wants, and if you want to go, pay your money just like the first time buyer. He owes you nothing. If you don't like it, don't buy a ticket.
I don't meant to call you out individually, but this whole thread is BS, and forget this east coast-west coast $hit, he doesn't play within a 4 hour drive of my state either. I'm not the only one on this site that's sick of all these threads. There are plenty of PMs getting sent around between some of the regulars who are sick of all the whining, I know I've received some. Has anyone else noticed the lack of posts this week? People are sick of this!!! They aren't posting, they're logging on, feeling the negativity from these threads and walking away from their computers without posting.
Get over it already!!!

welllllll, okies, if you seriously believe that...in all honesty, there were that many fans that liked Glory Days, and how many times did he do it in concert? not that Werewolf was much better.

I think he does what he likes to do.

last time I checked it, he was still a very privately held corporation.

I gotta agree with you, despite the other posts. It is the nature of the business. How many times have people griped about CIP, and all the other songs that "must" be played at each concert? Those are the songs that the casual fans expect to be played. And those fans buy the majority of the tickets. So US fans do make it all happen. :D

Yes, I'm serious! Why do you think he plays a lot of the same songs over and over at each concert? Because he knows his fans expect to hear certain songs. Periodically he'll throw in something that isn't really a real crowd pleasing type song, just to try to see how far it will go. I was an entertainer for a long time myself and if a song completely sucked or didn't go over, we had a tendacy to push it to the side. Maybe, we'd try it once in a while for a filler, but if it sucked it sucked. He calls out the Lawn People because they're way in the back and he wants them to realize they're important also, even if they have the cheap seats. All performers do that to people who end up in the back. People with the spendy up front tickets are already getting an up close and personal show.

Obviously you cared enough to find out what people are saying in this thread to even go ahead and post yourself. To say it's stupid isn't caring much about what other's are really feeling or trying to find out about the situation? How many of the 330 post did you read to come to that conclusion? We're not going to solve anything, but sometimes venting does help if there isn't any real solid answers.

I'm never negative towards JB or any BN Posters or Parrotheads, and I do plan to be. I certainly would never be negative towards you, I don't even know you or what you're all about? However, like a lot of people I'm still not pleased or very happy about how the concerts were either a never to be or canceled without any real reasons as to why? I'm sure there Must be a very good reason, even if it's just JB wanted to take most of October off and hang prepare a different show for Land Shark Stadium. I know we're not owed anything including an explanation, however it would be the right thing to do in this case for sure.

Also, I never expected this thread to carry on like it has, but obviously there's been a number of people with something to say about something? It's not the end of the world, and I'm sure nobody is going to ban JB or stop attending his concerts or listening to his music because of this thread. It started out simply from an impulse reaction to finding out about the canceled West Coast Dates.

Peace! [smilie=coolup.gif]

I still say there are many possible reasons for these cancellations including many possible private matters. I don't know that he has family matters, health matters, etc. that has to be dealed with.....However, anything of this nature would clearly be a reason for cancellation that is none of our business. I'm assuming that you would agree with this....am I correct?

Whatever the reason is, I have to believe that Jimmy is holding it back for whatever reason. I just feel its appropriate to respect his thoughts and allow him to discuss the matter whenever he feels the time is right (if it ever is).

I just got back from the strip and its definitely more crowded than last weekend. Its still a large dropoff from typical Memorial Day weekend crowds, but its stronger than most weekends thus far in 2009 (Consumer Electronics Show, Super Bowl, and Opening weekend of March Madness probably rivaled it).

One reason why Trump Plaza may not have been distributed on priceline is that most these unitls are hotel condos. Many owners come in this weekend to stay there (taking up inventory) and there's not as many units to fill.

It will just be interesting to see if the opening of City Center later this year provides a strong spike in tourism. A Buffett concert didn't do it. A three day weekend didn't do it. Many properties NEED more the business and the cit needs to do something to create more out of town tourism.

I do not want to upset anyone and I have not seen this posted yet so here it goes. I just looked at my wife's t-shirt that we got at the Frisco show it list's the locations of the concerts in order and San Diego and Seattle as well as a second Las Vegas are not on the shirt. Toronto, Uncasville and New York are.

I keep seeing comments that this might be because of low ticket sales for the may vegas show. I will say that a lot of the reason for low turnout in vegas was strictly due to the weather. A lot of people left the pre-party because it was just too hot and miserable... I'm guessing a large number of them didn't make it to the show either, but the tickets WERE sold out, so it really doesn't matter.

Oh, and my jaw pretty much hit the floor when i saw the addition of a bunch more EAST COAST dates in November... Simply amazing.. y'know, I have always been afraid of what might happen when Jimmy stops touring, but it looks like he already is... Hate for him to get too far from home... Maybe he's afraid of flying?

There are plenty of PMs getting sent around between some of the regulars who are sick of all the whining, I know I've received some. Has anyone else noticed the lack of posts this week? People are sick of this!!! They aren't posting, they're logging on, feeling the negativity from these threads and walking away from their computers without posting.
Get over it already!!!
CDawg,

I have to disagree that only "casual fans" sit on the lawn. I know many many hard core fans that prefer the lawn and for some it's all they can afford. I don't think you can group casual or dedicated fans into one specific seating area....I think he calls out to the "lawn people" because he knows they have crappy seats but are there anyway for the music
There's this one particular harbor.....

WoW! some of y'all are really serious.....

do any of you on the West coasters think that Buffett is too stupid to not know the uproar that cancelling these shows was going to bring?

So how many people actually loet money on these canceled shows? How much did they actually lose?

Jimmy is going overseas to a venue that reportedly sits 2,000? Isn't that what someone said about the concert in the UK on 05 July? Is that just JB or include the whole band? Those are going to be really exspensive tickets or else JB is losing a lot of money... a tax write off perhaps?

I wonder how much those tickets are going to cost?

Then he plays Paris I am not sure how big that venue is.
Is anyone calling for a boycott of those shows?

STOP trying to pit one against the other and being so devisive.

NOW if JIMMY WANTS to provide (or ever will provide) any explanation is totally up to him or his managers. Nothing said here is ever going to change that. Nothing any fan does is going to change that.

People paid for concerts in the past and most feel like they got their money's worth at the time, and some will continue to travel to see him and pay any price to do so.

Remember the good times you had and celebrate them and continue to enjoy them.
Sooner or later the boat is going to pull into port or run aground for a final time and never sail again.
At least you were part of one or more of the actual voyages!

Stay home and and throw a party with the money you saved for not going. No one says you can't do that. Everyone can make cds of their favorite Buffett songs rather inexspensively and put them on. Or tune into RM. If one spends $3,000.00 on one show, I am quite sure one can have one heck of a party and a definite fun and memorable time for far less.

As for Landshark Lager Stadium shows and what JB does there, remains to be seen. If you don't want to see or hear them so be it.
I am quite sure that there are many people that will attend them. Depending on the cost and time and work, I might go to one or more and I might not.

All of this reminds me of the 10 stages of being a parrothead. Some people finally found where they are
on that. I am quite sure the list has been posted around here somewhere, or can be easily found.

Among the many things Jimmy Buffett is, not many seem to accept that Jimmy Buffett is first and formost a business man. How and why he runs his business is his business. Not yours, not mine, or anyone elses.
No one has to like it. However people keep planning vacations far in advance around him and paying to see him. Maybe some will think twice about that now...maybe they won't.

Once again I do agree that Jimmy SHOULD provide an explanation for what happened. It would be the right and proper thing to do.
