I took steps to not use the official NASCAR logo,
only invoke the idea with my design.

I honestly expected the *invoke the idea* to have been rejected
when I first submitted the design
(last year it took me over a dozen submissions before I got one accepted).

That's why I had backup designs
using RACECARITAVILLE and FASTCARITAVILLE
ready to go.

But they accepted my first submission,
then allowed 15 days of voting,
then let it sit at in 5th place for over a month
(it is still on the first page of MOST VOTES).

And then only today told us that they
"reviewed your win and found that your submission contained copyrighted materials owned by others."

WTF?

It's disappointing, but I do understand and we need to respect their decision. Whatever the outcome, it was a noble effort. Congratulations to Bob and thanks to everyone for their dedication and support. 5th place out of that many cars is something to be proud of. There is always next year and I think Racecaritaville is a good alternative for the next attempt.

Truly was our night to win

announced that they are one of the selected TEN FINALISTS

Congrats on all the brilliant efforts...it was a valiant race for Parties That Matter.

It's a shame the way this was handled, but so, so great to have run the race. It brings great faith in the ability of BNers and all the others to accomplish what they did.

I have not 100% given up hope, but it does look doubtful. Once I receive a reply to the appeal,
I may respond with a tad more annoyance about their procedures.

Nonetheless, let's not forget ......

NASCARITAVILLE and Parties That Matter - What we accomplished.

- We managed to get our racecar, with the name PARTIES THAT MATTER prominently displayed,
voted up to 5th place out of 40,000+ entries.

- We have been in the TOP FIVE and thus page 1 of the entries when sorted by "most votes" since March 3rd.
That has been huge and we should be proud. Think of the number of people who may have learned more about
"those parrothead people" and realize that "Hey! They care!" :D

- for the past 5+ weeks, each time anyone visited this very popular contest website,
our entry has been seen on page 1 when sorted by MOST VOTES ..... this is huge

- Even though we were not selected as a finalist, we have still raised awareness
from each of you
and hundreds of others about the work that Parties That Matter does
and shown that parrotheads know how to "Party With A purpose"

- we have honored Vicki Britt and her memory by naming this racecar "The Spirit of Vicki"

We should all be proud. Thank you.

What a shame....can't believe they didn't let you know this at the beginning so you could have used on of the other designs.
You only have two options - havin' fun or freakin' out...

Sort of feels like Dean Vernon Wormer got us this time.

Bob, you poured your heart and soul into this and your efforts are greatly appreciated by all. There were so many night I'd check BN around 11:00 PM west coast and you would have recently entered an update on PTM/NASCARITAVILLE. That's a lot of late nights and long hours.

Fins up!

Anyone have contacts with the producers of 60 Minutes? :pirate: :pirate:

I disagree that "we need to respect their decision" — at least, until they provide some valid reason other than a generic statement that they "found that your submission contained copyrighted materials owned by others." At the very least they can tell us just *WHICH* copyrighted materials they are referring to.

*THEN* maybe I'll understand and respect their decision.

On the plus side — we *DID* manage to accomplish the first step of what we set out to do.
Thanks for all your time and creative effort, SP.

It appears that the entry FREE STATE PROJECT
was selecetd as one of the TEN FINALISTS.

On Friday, April 15th .... The Free State Project facebook page
http://www.facebook.com/fspnascar
announced

"Drivers, start your engines! WE MADE THE TOP TEN.
Gear up for a furious race to the finish to get
the Free State Project on a NASCAR!
.... we've been notified. The FSP is in fact a finalist.
Voting runs April 22-May 1".

Image

I am beyond shocked. This entry makes a political statement,
that I will not comment on as to whether or not I agree or disagree with their mission,
that does not matter ....
but if this is true,
I cannot fathom how it was accepted within the rules.
e.g.
"You agree that you will not use any submissions to post or
communicate any item which: Promotes ..... any particular political agenda or message;"

I will not judge an entire organization or group by statements made on a facebook page by individual over zealous members,
but I did find some posts that seemed to want not only to vote for their entry to promote their message,
but also to "vote for any other entries that would knock the IN MEMORY OF JESSICA II entry out of the top ten"
... presumably because this tribute car to a fallen police officer represented something that the Free State Project is against,
government intrusion and the STATE POLICE car offends their supporters in some way.

Information about the The Free State Project can be found at the following websites
where this Sponsafier image was promoted.

Hello,

I understand and respect that decision. I do not understand nor respect the process.

"The Sponsor" could have notified us this weeks ago, when we would still have had a chance to submit an alternate design.
We had STOCKCARITAVILLE ready and waiting in the wings as a backup car. From my experiences with the original Sponsafier
contest in the spring of 2010, I had nearly a dozen designs rejected for unspecified reasons until finally one was approved.
I operated under the assumption that once approved, we were good to go last year and again this year.

Our design and entry was not *under your radar* buried deep amongst 40,000+ entries. We have been in the top 5 of popular
votes since March 3rd. The Sponsor could have easily notified us weeks ago that they considered our design in violation of the rules.
We would have had time to submit our backup racecar entry and still garnered the votes to promote a very worthy charity
and honor Vicki with the name the "Spirit of Vicki".

The process and lack of personal communication is abysmal and disrespectful. You have had my contact information for over 2 months.
Our entry was clearly one of the most honest, popular and best run campaigns of this contest, and was monitored by hundreds of
excited supporters. It was, until now, one of your best campaigns promoting Toyota and NASCAR.

You still have not provided me with a clear explanation of what is in violation. Is it my colored blocks design with the
S-curved checkered flag road that *invokes* the image of racing and NASCAR? Please clarify.

Bob: I want to take this opportunity to say Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this cause. The people here and those on the Dark side along with all the FB fans know that you have worked your butt off for this and I believe I speak for everyone of them when I say that you sir are deserving of our gratitude. Please don't let this experience bring you down. You did everything they asked of you and then some. The problem is obviously with them not you. Take some well deserved time off and if you wish to try again next year we will all be right there with and for you.

Thanks again.

After reading the so-called "explanation", I stand by my earlier post: I do not have to "respect their decision". They dropped the ball here big-time, especially in light of allowing that "Free State" car to continue, also in apparent conflict with the "rules". Although I suppose it's their show and they know their audience — which would play right into the sort of brain-dead, overly-simplistic demographic that these "Free-Staters" would seem to represent.

However, Bob, just to let you know:  There were a couple of times a month or so ago where I was part of the group in Madison telling Reichsführer Walker where he could go and how soon he should start packing in order to get there; but I've still got enough righteous indignation stockpiled that I can afford to let Toyota and Nastycar have a earful or two as well. Just waiting to hear from you further on where we go with this.
