Rancho Deluxe is a forgotten Gem!!!!!
I dug out and was listening to Rancho Deluxe this is a Great Album for the Buffett fan.
It has early version's of "Wonder Why we ever go home" and Livingston Sat night and "The Wrangler" has some kick ass hermonica from "Fingers"
"Left me with a Nail to Drive" is a red neck delight.
All in all not a bad album. Pretty fun listen.

While I love Rancho Deluxe I must say I consider some of Buffett's latter day work a return to form of sorts. I don't think he'll ever make an album on a par with A1A again but some of the songwriting (even though it's Mac's) on Beach House of the Moon is right up there with some of his best work. I also like License To Chill though I could do without Toby and Kenny. On the plus side are the songwriters he covers this time out (Guy Clark, Will Kimbrough, John Hiatt, Bruce Cockburn, etc.) and the inclusion of slide guitarist ace Sonny Landreth and Little Feat's Bill Payne as part of the session band.jerry wrote:i had to register just to reply to this thread.

I know this topic is about the album Rancho Deluxe, but I'm curious about the movie itself--is it any good? I've heard mixed reviews about it and I'm trying to locate it for rental. I know Jimmy is the singer in the band during one scene (which is my main motivation for seeing it), but I've seen enough semi-positive reviews to be intrigued enough to watch it.
Thoughts?

Depending on your age and experiences in the "New West" the movie is either hilarous or a bit dull. If you live in the semi rural west of Montana, Idaho (not Boise but more like Burley or Rexburg) or any part of the West where ranching is still a big part of the local culture then you will identify with many of the characters and actions and generally that leads to a great many laughs. If on the other hand you don't, well, some of the jokes won't be all that funny.
