Therein lies the difference between you and me, I could not care any less what you think of me. However, I do find it a bit disturbing that you use the words s*ck and blow in the same sentence when addressing me.Jahfin wrote: I could very easily judge you by a few select posts and label you a whiner but I've seen other posts besides those and know you to be much more than that. You quite obviously do care what myself or others think of you or you wouldn't say anything. Damn, I could have also worked "leg humping" into that sentence as well. Hey, there's always the edit option.Y-NO-9-O wrote:Therein lies the difference between you and me, I could not care any less what you think of me. Sam Walton's book is called "Made In America"Does anyone else find it ironic that it is about a store that has little or nothing in it that IS!?
Poor Sam is burrowing to China, because what has happened to his company! Soon he'll be able to see where most of the things in his stores comes from!

Several years ago (when Sam was still around) Wal Mart's big marketing campaign was "Made in America". Wal Mart differentiated itself from other retailers by advertising and selling a large number of American made products. As you say, those times are long gone as it is a challenge to find any American made products at Wal Mart today. A key competitive advantage now is high volume of low-cost imported goods.parrothead216 wrote:Sam Walton's book is called "Made In America"Does anyone else find it ironic that it is about a store that has little or nothing in it that IS!?![]()

I've thought there may be some validity to investigating whether Wal Mart holds a purchasing-side monopoly (as opposed to the market or selling-side monopoly we typically think of...e.g. Microsoft).

Seems to me Manufacturers would be the ones to blame for foreign-made goods, not the retailer.Quiet and Shy wrote:Several years ago (when Sam was still around) Wal Mart's big marketing campaign was "Made in America". Depends on how you look at it...when the retailer has the market presence that they can pressure the wholesaler for lower and lower prices, the wholesaler can be pressured into seeking or manufacturing the goods overseas to maintain their shrinking profits...Key Lime Lee wrote:Seems to me Manufacturers would be the ones to blame for foreign-made goods, not the retailer.Quiet and Shy wrote:Several years ago (when Sam was still around) Wal Mart's big marketing campaign was "Made in America". How do you figure that Lee? If you are a manufacturer and all your competition is in Wal-Mart and they in turn tell you okay we will take your product, but "This is what We want to retail it for, Now YOU find a way to make it to sell at that price and STILL make a profit!" Who's squeezing who?

That is pretty much it...I believe Rubbermaid is one of the few companies that stood up to Walmart when they tried this move.parrothead216 wrote:How do you figure that Lee? good question. I am sure there has been some serious arm-twisting by commercial interests to ignore a lot of things that would get a nation without a billion consumers within its borders kicked off the list or sanctioned...Key Lime Lee wrote:I suppose Walmart has forced the US government to give China "most favored nation" trade status too.

The Chinese are not consumers of U.S. goods...they simply can't afford them ...thus, the huge trade deficit.RinglingRingling wrote:good question. Wal*Mart may not have "forced" the U.S. into granting Most Favored Nation Status, but they may have had plenty of influence on the home-state boy turned President. It was the "other" US President which was compliant to big business and put political monetary gain ahead of national interest which granted China MFN status in 1997....and don't forget, the Mrs. used to sit on Wal*Marts board of directors.
