I'm a true fan....I know all the words to Margaritaville, and can occasionally, on a really drunken imaginative moment, make up my own lyrics. Because of his cheeseburger song-I know what to order on my cheeseburger. I also know that my fins are supposed to go left and then right. I also know that you can get drinks on boats called boat drinks, and that there is only one particular harbor (not 2). He also recommends getting drunk, and screwing. Because of all this knowledge I am a true fan. :D

Well, since no one took a shot at the answers, here they are:

Midnight Flyer wrote:A true fan knows:

The year Jimmy moved to Nashville
1969

His first wife's name
Margie Washichek

His second wife's name
Why...Miss Jane Slagsvol of course

The name of his debut single
The Christian? The question mark was part of the title.
Released in 1970

bonus: the name of the lable and whose it was
Barnaby Records owned by Andy William's

Knows who said this: "Yes, I am the man who introduced Jimmy Buffett to Key West. I am responsible for all that island junk that he does so well-that golf-Gulf-and-western music...Me, I didn't like that whole steel drum thing. But I'd say it worked out nicely for Buffett."

That would be Jerry Jeff Walker

Knows where Cayo Hueso is
psst...don't tell anyone but it is Key West

Knows who 'A Pirate Looks at Forty" was written about

Phil Clark

bonus: Knows where he's "buried"

Well, he's mostly "buried" in the gulf stream. He was cremated and his ashes were hauled around KW on one last drunkin' binge. The ashes were in a little pirate chest and everyone poured part of their drink (usually Johnny Wlaker Black-Phil's fav) over the pirate chest. That was everyones last drink with Phil. Then a few people got the crazy idea to snort some of his ashes. So...what wasn't snorted was taken in a boat out to the Gulf Stream and scattered out there under a jolly roger flag that was from the Margaritaville store. That is the story about where Phil is buried.

Knows who coined the term "Parrot Head"

I don't REALLY need to answer this, do I??

I love Jimmy Buffett's music and the lifestyle he sings about. I love the way that as a young man, he seemed to know that there is untapped wisdom in older folks. I love Key West, John D. MacDonald and Fenway Park.
I like the "Yellow" album. I don't care who knows it. I also don't care what kind of car Jimmy drives, what his favorite ball team is, or where he lives. I don't think that anybody can pass judgement on who a "true fan" is or who is not a "true fan". I know it was a hell of a lot easier getting tickets to see Jimmy before Parrot heads were around. I mean, Parrotheads did not create this phenomenon. It was already there.
Just because people don't share the same view of the man as I do, doesn't make them more or less a fan than me.
I have seen Jimmy in concert over 100 times. I am going on 27 years of seeing him. I first saw him in 1980. I'll bet then somebody saw me at the concert and said something like "first Buffet concert for him, I'm sure" Just because somebody buys tickets from a scalper does or does not make them any more or less of a fan. You do what you have to do to attend the show(within reason)
So, let's put this true fan nonsense to rest. Please.

Can you believe the current issue of Coconut Telegraph (got in the mail Wednesday) says 'A Pirate Looks at 40' was written about Captain Tony? :o The myth lives on.
