Is there enough to do on Captiva for 3 days?
We found great airfare into Ft. Myers- is there enough for us to do on Captiva for 3 days (we arrive at noon on Friday and leave for the airport around 4 on Sunday), or should we stay in Ft. Myers and just visit? I know it's not a long drive, but we would rather be able to drink and stumble back instead of driving.
We definitely want to go kayaking and to the nature preserve, but I'm not sure either one of us has the ability to just hang out on the beach for more than a half hour or so, especially if the water is as calm as I've heard.
Also, any must eat lunch places on the way over there?

I'd recommend spending more time on Sanibel. However, if you're not big beach people you might be bored.Coconuts wrote:We found great airfare into Ft. However, if you're looking to just get away from it all and step back into a different era, Sanibel/Captiva are perfect.

I know!! That would've helped out in the move department as well! But we do need a vacation that's just the two of us- even when we went to Japan my sister and brother in law spent a few days with us!balcony girls wrote:. .I wish you had found the same great rate into Tampa. . ! !

I have been to Sanibel/Captiva amny times.
Rent a bike and ride all over ...it's great.
Go to Ding Darling...take your camera...take the drive tour and then kyack !!!
Eat at The Bubble Room. Watch the sunset from the deck at the Mucky Duck. Visit the beach at the light house.
Hit a night club where Danny Morgan will play Jimmy tunes.
The Island Cow had good food to and live music.
Have a great time...you will want to go back I'm sure

Did I miss something? We were there last year and didn't see any places which were mentioned. Is there like a sort of strip in Sanibel? All we saw was high rise bldgs. And what it the Bubble Room?

the main "strip" in Sanibel is Periwinkle Way. The other key road is Sanibel-Captiva Rd. If you saw high rise bldgs, you were almost certainly on Captiva which is much more developed.CrznDnUS1 wrote:Did I miss something? The Bubble Room is an ecclectic restaurant full of unusual furnishings/knickknacks. Some people love it.

If you saw "highrise buildings" then you were on Ft Myers beach, Sanibel/Captiva building codes have never allowed anything over 4 stories.
IMO- take your own bottle of wine and some cups and sit out back of Mucky Duck on the beach for the sunset, the resteraunt itself is overpriced and the service is downright rude. There are many better places to eat on both Sanibel and Captiva.
If you want a beautiful view and really good food then try The Tarpon Lodge. As a local this is one of my favorite getaways, it is located on Pineland and overlooks Pineisland sound.

GEED181,
you'd be right about da heat on dem wings. first time I ordered 'em the guy behind the bar suggested I might ought to put a couple of rolls of t.p. in the freezer. it was a good suggestion....so I passed it on likewise.

Bubble Room is a must. Take a boat to Cabbage Key. A lot of the rest of what you mentioned (J DING DARLING) is actually on Sanibel. Sometimes it is better to look for shells at night with a flashlight. Try biking. Avoid the big resort that is on the northern end of Captiva... it is not at all like the rest of the two islands. Make sure you jog to the lighthouse and back... brings good luck. Visit the shell museum... have fun... before we lived in the Caribbean this was our favorite place. :)
