We have twin adjustable beds with memory foam mattresses, put together like a king with a headboard/bedside tables surround-thingy. We LOVE it. We both have had serious back injuries, and since I had surgery I can't sleep flat on my back. I sleep with mine slightly elevated. I no longer wake up when he gets out of bed half a dozen times a night. Sometimes they are adjusted the same, sometimes not. They have upper and lower body vibration as well. No heat.

We discovered a great "secret" is using jersey knit sheets. They hug the foam and work much better than regular cotton on the memory foam.

Gotta tell ya though, it took a while to get used to the lack of movement at errrrrr, special moments. But just as it took a few tries when getting used to a waterbed, ya figure it out!
Some will go and some will stay. It doesn't matter anyway ......

Wow, I guess I should have updated this thread. About 2 weeks ago we took delivery of a king size Sealy True Foam 11" thick memory foam mattress. So far it is the best purchase we've made for the new house. A bit pricey, but I have never slept so well - even the 2 large restless dogs who sneak up every night don't wake me anymore.

I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a new bed.

My son has one of those memory foam mattress toppers about 6 inches thick. When I slept on his bed in August it was WONDERFUL. And the best thing for him - he got it free!! He worked at a mattress company while in school and was given it by his boss.

We have a very firm, California King mattress now. It's about 10 years old, maybe older. I'm thinkin' we'll try one of the topper thingies before we make a big commitment and I think we're going shopping for one this weekend.

He has me on a mattress-hunting kick right now, but I reallllllly want a new bedroom set to go with it, so I think I have to be extra good this year so Santa will bring me all the presents I want. :D

Yeah. By good I mean naughty.

But now my friend wants me to go bridesmaid dress shopping, so I think our mattress hunting will have to wait a weekend!

We're also somewhat motivated because we have a rampant and recurring case of staph infections in our house, so we're pretty much replacing everything we might have come in contact with that we can't clean well enough to kill the staph. It's a big pain in the ass (and expensive when you consider mattresses and carpet are breeding grounds for that stuff).

We bought one of the Novafoam mattresses from Costco in Sept. We bought it on line and they shipped it UPS, got it in about a week. The nice thing with Costco is their return policy, if you don't like it, call them and they will arrange for pickup. We really like it and my back problems have dropped a lot since. I did some research online before we bought it and the consensus seemed to be that most people liked the Novafoam better than the Tempurpedic, didn't get as hot.

Didn't try it first, after reading the stuff I found on line with customer reviews, we decided to just go for it. I've have friends that have gotten stuff from Costco on line and returns were never a problem, so I figured that if I didn't like it I'd just have them come get it.

Here's a link to some reviews (Hope it works :D )

 you'd have to have a really awesome secret santa for that!

i'm wonderin' the same thing, though, about the comfyness of a topper vs. comfyness of the whole bed.

i mean, is it worth it... realllllly worth it, to dump that kind of $$ on a bed (i'm seeing some into the $2k and up range!!!!).

if i am going to sleep like an angel for the next 10 years of my life, then i'm all for it.

Ours was listed at $2499. After walking out several times we got it for $1999 including frame, box springs, tax, and delivery.

It was worth every penny.

True?
that's my #1 worry. hubby and i aren't exactly small people. we're likely to make quite a dent in this bed! the one thing he hated about the bed i had when we were first dating is the depression/ in the middle where i slept when i was alone.

flopping is a problem, too. hubby is a big guy, so feeling some floppy movement is prolly unavoidable. i'm a deep sleeper, so once i'm asleep any flopping is generally not an issue.

it's gotta be a king size bed, too.

Hubby said he's done some shopping around (was going to be a surprise xmas present). He got one retailer to knock of 1/2 the price on a certain mattress.

Seems like mattress salesmen are about as slinky as car salesmen.
