It has been fun reading all the "would haves" and "should haves" from the Parrotthead gallery.

And Doug, maybe the next time I meet Jimmy will be when we go to Anguilla and St. Bart's this winter...this time we'll have lunch (and "wish it would last forever!")

Welcome to BN, Emmy! Love the "wish lunch could last forever" story in Tales. Maybe you'll get photos next time...

that was probably the last straw in Lowell George's pack... :D
   Actually it was Bill Payne, and he seems to be surviving my lack of recognition pretty well.
sure.. if he'd had a keyboard with.. it would have been a piece of cake to recognize him
[smilie=coolup.gif] Exactly! That's what I'll tell him next time I run into him...
and when you lull him into a sense of calm, slap him upside the head and tell him to never, ever, ever let some local guest artist come up on stage during Dixie Chicken and turn it into some half-a$$ed pseudo-psychadelic wannabee fragup...
Ohhhhh KAY! I'll get busy practicing that speech right away, RR...

Repeating to myself ... half-a$$ed psuedo-sycho-delic-wannabe frag(?) up... Aw heck...

I'll just skip that part if it's all the same to you, RR!

Great article. Guess I gotta pick up the Post tomorrow and/or Sunday.
Something else for the Buffett corner of my dorm!

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

I love this one part:
Pre-show meant a pre-show party cordoned off behind the pavilion, more back lot than backstage. There we and our two friends found folks like us with similar connections -- a woman with a brother in the State Department who had smoothed some international travel issues for Buffett...

If I were to ever have the opportunity to meet Jimmy I would hope that the opportunity would present itself without any warning. That way I would have no time to think about it before hand, and I would have no time to become all kinds of nervoous. I would like to think that if I ever were to be lucky enough to meet Jimmy that I would keep my cool and just be myself, and I think I could do that. However, I know I am dreaming, but dreaming can be fun.

I don't know how I missed this, but I just finished reading that fine tribute to Jimmy.

I loved the comment about comminicating. Good stuff. Thanks for finding that.

Yea, I'm sure I'd get choked up.
I hope I'd be able to say how much his positive focus has meant to me.
It's something I've aspired to also.

Maybe it's the Joseph Campbell influence.
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after every now and then.

I would very politely ask if I could take a picture and get an autograph. After I had both wrapped in tightly in my hands, I'd thank him. Right before I left I'd say "So I guess you really LOVVVVVVVVVVED your birthday book" and run like hell.

Hell, I was crying myself (I'm a sucker for happy endings  ) Of course the crying could have had something to do with spending the last five minutes using my 5'9" 170 pound body to fend off Charleston's 11'6" 500 pound hulking mass so somebody had free reign to get all gushy with Jimmy. Hmmmmm, maybe the beating I took from Charleston explains the headache that damn near killed me that night.

The wife and I had this very discussion last week in HI, especially after seeing the show at the Shell. She asked what I would do -

I told her, well, I would say thanks. Just simply thanks, smile, and just walk away. Sometimes leaving more of the conversation in your own head for the other person to ponder is worthwhile. Having made it through 2 marriages, 2 careers, and now 3 keets, I figure that keeping my sanity has to do something with Bubba.

We spent a lot of time in out of the way places on Oahu last week and though I wasn't keeping my hopes up, I just kept my eyes open. No luck, but the fact that I took my wife to HI for the first time to see him, I figure something darn good had already happened because of his influence.

When we got home to PHX, I got ready to go to bed and told her thanks, smiled, and went to bed. She told me that meant more to her than most anything else I had told her in a long time.

Thanks.
