well said..... which is more than I can say right now because I am all choked up. Man.... I know it was his time but what an icon to all of us. It will NOT be the same to go to Key West - walk in that bar and not see him sitting there. I am so glad I was there to here some stories from him.

sail on Capt...... we know you are just in the next room.

Jimmy Did "last Mango" last week..
Sure did. Did it for his old friend Captain Tony at the last concert of 2008 - 10.25.08 in Las Vegas. I feel privileged to have been there to hear it.

Fittingly enough, "Last Mango" came on while we were driving in the car today (mp3 player) and for the first time, my kids (9 and 11) perked up and started asking about the lyrics.

I told them it was about Captain Tony and all his adventures, "and there's still so much to be done."

Sail on Captain.

Every time I talked to Tony he would say the same thing "this guy should be my body guard to protect my hooker money" . . .

you were a dirty old goat.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

Well said, guys. No way. This can't be happening during MOTM. Of course, what better time than when all his friends are there, congregating there in Key West.
I knew this day would come. But it's much harder than I thought.

Sorry for posting twice, but going through all the webcams in Key West tonight and hearing all the great musicians toast Capt. Tony....this is bigger and sadder than I thought. I know, he milked his fame from Jimmy, but he DID live a fantastic life .....

I'm down in Key West for MOTM and, although it was a shock to hear this news, I am happy that I could say goodbye to Cpt Tony on his island. We made Cpt Tony's our last stop of the night to drink one in honor of the Captain. When the band that was performing there tonight played "Last Mango", we all wiped away a tear and raised our glasses in honor of the Captain and thanked him for the many, many years of great memories!

Captain Tony - I'm honored to have met you - you were truly one of a kind and will be missed by many.

I'm also in KW for MOTM and was out on the sunset cruise with KD Moore, Fingers Taylor and Amy Lee when the news broke. It was very much like one of our Irish wakes. Yes, there was sadness, of course, but there was much celebration of a life well lived, and as many smiles as there were tears. KD, Fingers and Amy played Last Mango and Pirate, among others, and then Lovely Cruise.....

Sail on, Captain Tony. You will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.

From another JB song:

He's somewhere on the ocean now,
the place he ought to be;
with one hand on the starboard rail,
he's waving back at me.
Carry on as you know they would want you to do. ~~JB, dedication to Tim Russert

Take your time
Find your passion
Life goes on until it ends
Don’t stop living
Until then

I received a text message from a friend down there last night while I was having dinner with some friends.

And here's the book:

It took me all of three hours to read from cover to cover.
What a man. What a life. What an inspiration to all.
Truly a sad day for all parrotheads, and especially for Jimmy himself.

Go with God & rest well, Captain.
Despite all I've been able to see and do in my relatively short time, one of my biggest regrets was never having the opportunity to have met you, nor any human being remotely close to the person you were.

Fair winds & following seas, my friend. I know I'll see you when I arrive at that final port of call.
