Well, I'm a new JB fan on the block. My first three Buffett albums that I bought at the same time in 2007 were A1A, Meet Me in Margaritaville; The Ultimate Collection, and Take the Weather with you. There have been several JB album purchases since then.

A1A on vinyl whenever it came out. It's still my favorite - especially side 2 for those of you old enough to remember when albums had "SIDES" and you had to get up and flip the record over on the turn table,

I bought A1A for myself, but my brother gave me WSCandaPC.

I borrowed vinyl Coconut Telegraph from a friend in the mid1980s and copied it on a cassette tape. Was too poor to buy any albums at the time. Hubby has bought all our Jimmy CDs since then.

Ahhh yes, the days of taping albums! I remember them well. I was so happy when I got a stereo with the casette deck built in. Before that it was putting the cassette recorder next to the speaker and killing anyone who made any kind of noise.carolinagirl wrote:I borrowed vinyl Coconut Telegraph from a friend in the mid1980s and copied it on a cassette tape. Volcano, 1979. Jon Scott (FM 100 dj-he is in the pix on the inside album cover)- played the whole thing on the 'album hour' one February night while I was driving home from the swing shift at a John Morrell meatpacking plant (don't ask). First 45 (what!?) was Wino and I Know-on the flip side of Come Monday.

Although Changes and SOASOAS were in the house on vinyl from my older brothers ans sisters, the first JB purchase I made was SYKBH on vinyl. First CD purchase was BBB&B and then it was off to the races to get everything on CD.

Re: What was your first-ever JB record purchase?
I was a little familiar with Buffett in the 80's because my brother had seen him live, (actually has a 8mm film of him) and his band used to play the song "Margaritaville". Always wanted to see Jimmy at Irvine back in the late 80's and early 90's but never figured out how to get a ticket. You had to drive out to the box office, stand in line and buy a ticket. Seemed like too much work. Then in 1995 my husband had a business trip to Hermasio, Mexico and bought a Feeding Frenzy cassette off a street vendor. Brought it home and I played the hell outta it. There was no turning back after that.

Re: What was your first-ever JB record purchase?
My first one probably the yellow album followed by BBB&B in the mid-90's. I bought a few more after that but didn't really fill out the collection until 1 year or so ago when I bought something like 10 cds at once. They were the ones from the 80's and a few from the 70's.

Feeding frenzy was the first one I bought but friend's parent in high school used to play his vinyl collection for us. We weren't allowed to touch them (atleast when he was there
)
Re: What was your first-ever JB record purchase?
I "inherited" a couple of 8-tracks, but my first purchase was vinyl: Songs You Know By Heart

Re: What was your first-ever JB record purchase?
honestly, I am impressed that you
A: remember and
B: still have it.
Most of my vinyl is long gone and Jimmy was played to death and scratched beyond use. I *think* my first JB album was Havana Daydreamin' and I can still sing every song on it (some are kind of obscure) by heart. I've been through 2 copies of some of the tapes, Floridays was a favorite for a while. Don't remember them all. Now they're all on mp3, though I do have the CD's, I can't remember which CD most songs are from becuase of the way I listen (on mp3)

I was 17, and I liked the single "If the Phone Doesn't Ring", which was getting play on country radio then (I think it made it to the top 20 on the country charts), so I bought "Last Mango in Paris" on cassette. (Yes, I still have it, and it still has the "30 Day Return" sticker that they used to put on tapes at K-Mart. Our local K-Mart is long gone, but I still have the tape.) A short while later I bought "Songs You Know by Heart".

Songs you know by heart, followed by Banana Wind two days later. I first discovered Buffett in 1996.

I actually made my own cassettes from FM radio, beginning in 1977 ... they actually played a little Bubba in Macon, GA.
My first purchase was in 1982 ... L&Din3/4Time...on cassette ... had to be ordered from a huge catalog @ Radio Shack!

CILCIA in 1978 on vinyl. Margaritaville.com says this came out then, but I'd swear I bought ii in 1977.
