NEWSBREAK:: Jimmy Buffett to buy Ocean Isle Beach bar

I live in Sunset Beach, North Carolina - right below Ocean Isle Beach. Was out drinking with a few friends last night and visited Salty McDoogles on Ocean Isle as the last bar. Another local dude told me that Jimmy was in Ocean Isle yesterday talking with the owners of Salty's, a popular Ocean Isle Beach bar. He learned that Jimmy MIGHT be buying the bar. Great news, hope it's all true.

I believe this because he did a shout out to his friends at Salty's when he performed in Charlotte this past spring.

Went to Sharky's tonight to have some beer and pizza. The bartender said Jimmy did fly in to Ocean Isle Beach on Thursday afternoon to talk "business" with the owners of Sharky's. Wish I would have known he was visiting; I live just 6 miles down the road. I confirmed with a waitress that he'll probably do a concert at Sharky's in the future.

I can see it happening easily. Sharky's is awesome....small town beach bar....kinda like the "bama breeze".

NC still has beaches that aren't taken over by tourists.....You know those small beach towns where everybody knows your name. Maybe jimmy wants a place that unlike the Margaritaville monster that he has created....

Ah, in the initial thread it said he was buying Salty's...that is why i questioned why he wouldnt buy Sharky's. That is my favorite place on Ocean Isle. Spent several nights there a few years ago reading Joe Merchant and eating coconut shrimp and old bay fries with cold corona. Then was invited to join some charter boat captains who proceeded to abuse one of their own who had to 'get a real job' since he was getting a divorce.

I know that Salty is looking for a buyer, I know a local who has been looking into the purchase. But I am sure if Bubba wants to buy Sharky's and the price is right, I dont' think the owners will say "no". I am a local and have never been to Salty Mcdoogles, but I am a regular at Sharky's and would rather see Bubba there. I can take my boat to Sharky's, not to Salty.

Word would certainly leak out if he does buy, but it would be nice if it stayed "as is". None of his t-shirts for sale, no Buffett-themed menu items and Margaritaville is the only song of his on the jukebox.
