2009-12-22 SonicTap-XM Music Channel Comparison
On February 9, 2010, DIRECTV customers will have a new source for their favorite music channels. SonicTap will continue to deliver the same crystal-clear sound and programming variety that DIRECTV viewers have always enjoyed. And SonicTap features even more music channels with no interruptions.

Dish better not drop it. I enjoy having the all Elvis channel and Radio Margaritaville.

If Jimmy would bring back the high-bandwidth stream, it would be a big step in the right direction. A 16kbps mono WMA stream, and a very bad sounding 40kbps stereo MP3 stream pale compared to other Internet radio. If bandwidth costs are an issue, he could at least do a 64kbps AAC+ stream, which many Internet radio stations are doing to support the iPhone.

My guess is the Radio Margaritaville stream is intentionally degraded to try to drive Parrotheads to XM/Sirius.

Satellite radio is a dying concept. The arrival of 3G (and in the next few years, 4G) smart phones means Internet streaming will become the preferred method of mobile multimedia content delivery.
I must confess, I could use some rest. I can't run at this pace very long.
