I'm not a fan of Wal-Mart either, but for me it was easier to go there last night and pick up a copy than to preorder. I've had a few "challenging" orders when placed through several of the Margaritaville stores and Mailboat in the past. Currently waiting for a shipment from the Waikiki store...been waiting 11 days now. Credit card was charged last Tuesday, which I would assume is the date it shipped, but can't get a confirm!!!

Oh well, I guess it is what it is...if I want something bad enough that I can't get anywhere else, then I order through M'Ville and hope for the best!!!

The good news is that even if it never shows (it most likely will sometime this week), it's now available on ebay.

Why the sellers seem to think folks will pony up $24 for a disc you can snag at most walmarts across the country for $12 is a bit beyond my comprehension, but it's there anyway....

My bad if I offended anyone.
"Phony outrage" is a term used on a morning radio show I listen to and is used when people make a big deal of nothing or something next to nothing.
I instantly think of it now when people get upset over
something trivial, like how bad Walmart, Kenny Chesney or Landshark blows or boycotting Jimmy because he hasn't played your city. Perhaps " overblown outrage" is better but I'm too the point where stressing over silly things or being the negative gloom and doom type aint my bag.
I had to wait about ten minutes at Wally World today while they went in the back to look for the cd and I thought of this thread for a moment but they were all very friendly and not one of them seemed like a communist, of course they could have been undercover.
Btw everyone I saw had teeth, myself included.
And I've always refered to myself as a dork.....BUT....I'm the coolest dork you ever saw! LOL!

i'd be angry to if that was me. but i gotta say, i'm more annoyed at the song selection than anything else. how many of these encores arent even jimmys songs? half of this album was written by other artists. i know for me i look forward to his encores in the hope i will hear a real treat of a song that hasnt been played in years or if at all. and by that, a song of jimmys, not tom petty. you could go album by album listening to jimmys own songs that he hasnt done in ages or ever and say "that would be a great encore." and just for the record, there are a few exceptions on this album that fall into that category but overall it falls way short.

One thing about this album that I've noticed is that jimmy's voice sounds a little rough or maybe tired.
I guess that's to be expected after singing 30 songs but hey it's still Buffett.

Yeah, I noticed that too...the ol' voice is a little raspy in spots!! But sometimes, the imperfections are what make things special (if that makes any sense)!! The realism of the raspy voice, a couple semi-flat notes hit here and there, brings it home.

And Oceanstate...I sure hope you get yours in the mail soon...I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

Call or email them. A lot of stores will honor the lower price if it drops before your item ships/is released.-

I'll pull it onto my MP3 from Napster to listen at the gym. I was just being goofy.

Last time I actually went through a set list and counted, about a third of what Jimmy plays at shows is covers. The songs on his last two studio albums have been predominantly written by other artists. Given those two pieces of data, I'm certainly not surprised that half of what's on this album is covers. If you're going to be unhappy with Jimmy about this, then you're probably unhappy with what's been on his set lists the past 5-10 years too. You're entitled if you want to be...but I don't know that it's all that unexpected an occurrence.

And me...I think I'll save my anger and outrage for more important stuff. But do what works for you.

Considering that these are live encores I'm thinking that by the time his 60 something year old voice and body get done with almost 2 hours of work he's getting a little tired. I was actually pleased at how good he sounded on Crossroads. I know I'm usually even hoarse at the end of the show!

not anger or outrage, just an observation. i am aware of the number of cover songs he has done the past 10 years and by most accounts im not really a fan of it.and from this collection there are only 2 songs from this past decade that even made the album.look im just saying i go to hear jimmy buffett do jimmy buffett songs, not jimmy buffett be a cover band. sorry i dont get excited for buffett doing springsteen, dylan,or petty. if i wanted to hear those songs i would go see those artists.

and me. i just wont be sit back and say everything the guy releases and does is outstanding. but do what works for you! [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]

I totally agree, Scarlet. I'm totally hoarse by the end of a concert and I can only hope to be able to do half of what he does when I'm 63. I give the guy a ton of credit.

Yeah, I usually hoarse the next day from yelling JIMMY. I guess the music and Boat Drinks make us all a little hard of hearing or something.

Just to throw another wrinkle into the argument...

I bought the digital download version of Encores from Walmart.com (trying to live by the "I've got too much stuff..." philosophy and de-crap my life). I paid $9.00 for it.

I debated long and hard (about five minutes total) over whether to buy this album or not. I record all the shows and probably have each of these songs stashed away in a hard drive somewhere. However, the prospect of having them packed together nice and tidy so it's just one button to hit on the Iphone was too tempting. Sounds great so far...I'll give it a real listening to while drinking a cold one on the boat this weekend.

Playing devil's advocate, I would say about 20% of Jimmy's album songs are also covers, so it it only fitting that some of the songs be covers. Lovely Cruise, Stories We Could Tell, Great Heart, Banana Republics, Coast of Marseilles, Sail on Sailor, Sea Cruise, Weather With You, are all examples of songs that people often mistake as Jimmy Buffett originals.

Jimmy may have made these popular to the P-Head audience, but regardless, they are still covers.

Aside from the Beatles, Springsteen, Dave Matthews, and Bob Dylan covers, I think he does a pretty good job with putting his own twist on some of the covers he does and enjoy them being on the Encores album. But, I also see your side of the arguement as well. I am just happy another album came out.

By the way, not to complicate this thread any more, but the digital MP3 version of the album can be had on Walmart's website for $9.00, as well as a slew of other great JB albums available for $7.00. Personally, I don't bother with the packaging and storage of CD cases. I like buying from the convenience of my home rather than waiting for it to be shipped or having to trek to Walmart/Best Buy, deal with people, and pay sales tax.
