I have been to three Metro Detroit Walmart's since Tuesday and none of them have the CD. Yesterday I had the nice, if clueless, lady look it up and she said the scanner shows they have 40 in stock but after scouring the floor and asking the stock guys, nobody had seen any! Grrrrrr.

I notice it on disc one the most. Then again I may be getting burned out his live albums because he's hit us with so many over the last few years. I haven't listened to it since I first bought it and I go back to work tomorrow so I'll have to take it in and give another listen.
Actually I thought the very same thing the first time I listened to the CDs.

But I also realize that these were all songs at the end of his usual 2-1/2 concert.......I'm guessing any singer's voice could be a bit rough after that, especially a singer in his 60s. :pirate:

After listening to the album multiple times now I honestly don't seem to notice that much any longer.......

Sometimes I can only say: "There is no dumbass vaccine......"

That is because they were probably back in the steel, packed with the AC/DC cds, like our Walmart. After I inquired, they had to get the forklift to get the box down for a whole 3 CDs! But at least I go one. Though, still no LandShark shirts ... :(

When I talked to a manager at another Walmart to see if they had the shirts, he said they were setting up a required "tropical area" right across from the front registers, with clothing, tikis, flip flops, etc. He said that they were putting it up right after the Earth Day display area came down. So maybe the shirts will start showing up this weekend?

Though they didnt have any CD's they did have plenty of Landshark shirts and swim trunks for $8. Shirts came in white, navy, red and grey as far as I can remember. They were right along the aisle behind the registers.

So it finally showed up in the mail.

Anyway, my take....

This isn't ones of those CD's where I immediately scream "Wow, I have to make sure everyone hears this." In other words, it's not spectacular.

It is, however, very, very comfortable. Listening to it gave me the feeling of having some friends over on a Friday evening for a few cocktails on the deck, grilling some grub, and having some great conversation.

Not sure if that makes sense or resonates with folks. In short, I kind of liked it.

It's more than 20 minutes, silly! 20 minutes only gets me to Lodi or CRP! Lodi and EG will be my backup plan if this one doesn't have it.

BTW, CRP has avocets on the wetlands walk...they were in really close the other day, got some pics. Phoebes are building a nest in the kiosk. Yolo's had some good stuff too. :D

I knew that collection was gonan be a good one. Remember, you heard it here first! It's interesting to hear they cut the tracks the same way I did; with Jimmy's comments leading into the track ("Thanks for 30 or so years of this summer job..." "Allllright..." "Okie Dokie...").

Still wondering where they got the idea for this set...
I think Jimmy got the idea from Jimmy!

If you look at the liner notes it says... "and somewhere back at the beginning of the 2008 tour .... I had this idea that we should offer a little more in the way of dessert than we had done in previous years."

The Encore Collection was posted on 9/24/2008... Somewhat later in 2008!

See: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=72040
However, he does contradict himself in the intro to Death of an Unpopular Poet, when he says "there's something I was doing that I didn't know I was doing... I was doing songs at the end that I hadn't done in a long time, and people recognized that without me even knowing I was doing it..." 7/22/08

The decision for the special desserts, no matter when and whether conscious or not, doesn't necessarily mean that Jimmy had the idea to offer the special desserts on tour, and THEN make a cd collection of them. It may have been Jimmy's original idea all along which is cool, or it may be that someone in his camp had the original idea, or that someone in his camp identified the excitement over SunLover's compilation of them on BN, and said "you know, what a great idea to put a collection of these on a cd."

Probably very few really know how it came about, and on BN we probably never will, but it was definitely SunLover who first dazzled us all with it.

By the way, not in regards to encores per se, but if you search "acoustic cd" on BN in ascending order, in regards to Jimmy you'll find this from 8/26/05:
col cairo wrote:RM will occasionally play an acoustic songs performed by Jimmy. It is nice change.

I would like to see an acoustic cd released.
and then this from 9/16/07: :D
Marnin Grita Guy wrote:
Tiki Bar wrote:Have you ever considered releasing an all-acoustic cd of yourself on Mailboat, and if so, might it be an upcoming project? You could title it "The Original Coral Reefer Band". :D
That would be available for release in 2010 if we were lucky.

It was in response to a thread titled "Miles To Ask Jimmy Questions Before The Next Show". viewtopic.php?f=1&t=62221&hilit=acoustic+cd&start=40 Therefore, I take full credit for putting the idea in Jimmy's head. [smilie=battingeyes.gif] :D And you're all welcome. And oh, the irony in MGG's response to me! I give him credit too!

and finally this from 1/24/09, AFTER all of the excitement of SunLover's collection:
phjim wrote:Upcoming for Jimmy Buffett is a new live acoustic CD which will be comprised of the intimate final encore songs he does at the end of each show, sometimes alone, sometimes with Coral Reefer Mac McAnally. It will be a unique collection unlike anything he has released before.

After reading alot of the previous problems encountered, I'm going to consider myself blessed with a nice, clean, always polite & helpful, friendly type of Wal-Mart where my only problems have ever been that it's too crowded at Christmas time....

Got my copy early Tues. without a hitch...easy to find, lots of copies, guy at the checkout smiled & said his girlfriend is a parrothead too.

BTW...Love the CD, opened it right up to listen to for the rest of the trip to work :P

Was just coming here to post the same thing.
My WM had plenty of the CD's in the New Release section ready to go by the time I got there at 8:30 am Tuesday morning.
No problems. :D

I want to say Thank You to everyone here for their support. Not just for the Encore Collections, but all the other feedback people have posted here or by PM.

I was never looking for (or expecting) individual recognition by Jimmy in the liner notes (as someone else suggested) or by any other method. I was also not trying to take sole credit for the idea. I believe several BNers were all a part of the inspiration for this CD as well as my post 2 years ago. We recognized that during the 2008 tour, Jimmy was doing a different song during the second encore of each show. All I did was put those songs together in a single collection.

I also noticed what Jimmy said before Death Of An Unpopular Poet (disc 2, track 9) as Tiki Bar mentioned above. I'm sure we mentioned in several setlist threads during the early part of the tour that it was a different encore song on each show, which was really cool. It kept each show fresh and slightly different from the previous shows. Perhaps he or someone in his camp also noticed that, either through BN or just on their own. We may never know...

I seem to recall Jimmy mentioning somewhere that he was going to try and change up the setlist for each show for that tour. I don't think it during a preshow interview; it may have been a call-in interview on RM (sorry, I don't remember the specifics).

I'm glad he released the Encores set. I also like to think that several of us here at BN did inspire him to put these songs together. I would not be surprised to learn if someone in Jimmy's camp may have downloaded the Encore Collection to determine how such a package would sound before starting the production process.

As always, thanks to Jimmy and to RM for streaming his shows to us and letting us have a virtual front row seat to each show.

I SURVIVED SUPERWALMART!!!! :o

It was actually a pretty decent experience. It was packed, but I couldn't believe how polite both the shoppers and employees were. It was actually the most "normal" bunch of people I've seen in a Wallyworld for awhile...or even Target for that matter.

First I found the tshirt display...there was a whole aisle of them where all the luau stuff was...which was right next to bikes. They had LOTS of shirts, so I picked up a couple to kick around in. Then I headed over to the CDs. I was getting worried, because there was nothing in the Buffett section, but then I rounded the corner and came upon the new releases display, there were probably at least a dozen there. Peeked in the door of the garden center and didn't see any big jimmy display, but didn't bother going in to check. Stocked up on other stuff while I was there. The only thing I didn't find was the purple self adhesive athletic bandage for my finger...had to settle for boring, yucky old flesh colored, lol. Oh yeah, and coconut M&Ms....they had nada. :(

Now to listen to the CD. :D Of course I can't import it to itunes, since my CD/DVD player no longer works on my laptop and my desktop is not cooperating at the moment.

They seem to do everything in their power to make your shopping experience as unpleasant as possible.
