Yes - I've seen that attributed to "notable redneck quotes". I have also seen than credited to New Yorkers on the Garden State Parkway so it just might be a widely used phrase

I actually know someone whose father uttered that as his last word. He was on the roof of a 2 story house and took one step too far. Her brother heard "oops" turned around and dad wasn't there. Unfortunately the fall killed dad.

I thought his last words were, "Where did all these Indians come from?"

Shortly after Custer's Last Stand, Pres. Grant commissioned a famous artist to create a painting depicting the battle. The artist demanded that he be able to work in secrecy and not allow anyone to see the painting until it was completed. He worked for many weeks, making sure every detail was accurate. A public unveiling was planned for when the painting was finally complete.

On the appointed day, Pres. Grant, and many other high ranking government officials, anxiously awaited the unveiling. Finally, the arist revealed his work to the assembled crowd. It consisted of Custer's army surrounded by cattle with halos and many, many Indians having sex. The President was outraged, the crowd was horrified. How could something like this be an accurate depiction of Custer's Last Stand? The artist explained his motivation. "The painting shows what was possibly one of Gen. Custer's final thoughts on that fateful day. "Holy cow!!! Look at all those f**king Indians.""

With the invention of the "minie ball" in the late 1840's and it's heavy use in the Civil War - muzzleloading rifles could be shot accurately over many hundreds of yards. Kills were reported by Civil War snipers at a 1,000...even 1,200 yards. I believe Union General John Reynolds (native of my home town of Lancaster PA) was shot early on at Getteysburg in a similar manner.
