Re: Who's Going to Jones Beach 8/19/11???
9L row c
Looks like this will be our only show this summer, so I had to pay the price when something decent popped up after getting alternating "sold out" messages and seats waaaaay off to the sides. Nothing turned up for pairs in the front orchestras for me, so 9L was about as good as I was going to get. I like the center low stadium 1 seats more than the back orchestra anyway. We'll be just high enough to see over the soundboard.
I did throw back one pair in F that tempted me until I noticed it was just about the last row. Those rear orchestra rows are too damned tight for me. It always feels like the rows are about an inch or two closer than they are in the stadium or front orchestra sections.
I'm looking forward to getting back to Jones Beach. I saw my first JB show there almost 20 years ago and even with all the Camden, Great Woods, Raleigh, MSG, Bristow, and AC shows inn between it still feels like home whenever we make it back there for Buffett.

Not familiar with the Freeport Inn but a lot of us stay at the Best Western Bar Harbour in Massapequa. You have to call the hotel direct for reservations but the rates/rooms are decent and it is close to Jones Beach. Here is a link http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern ... When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

There are some nice sections in Freeport. That's not one of them.lime rickie wrote:Anyone familiar with Freeport Inn and Marina? Only 5 mi from the venue.
If the Best Western in Massapequa Park is full, there's another Best Western in Rockville Centre and a Holidy Inn Express in Lynbrook. Those are probably the closest, but maybe not the least expensive. There's also a Hampton Inn in Rockville Centre but I think that's more expensive than Best Western.

Larry...how far out is Jones Beach from NYC? I have access to an apartment in Manhattan...is it too far to take the train back in to the city after the show?

You can take the LIRR to the Freeport station, then there's a bus from Freeport to the beach. I've never done it and I don't know anyone who has so I don't know how often the bus runs, especially at night. And again, the Freeport train station isn't in the best part of town and by time the concert ends and you get on the bus back to the train station, that time of night you're probably looking at 1 train an hour, if you're lucky.

The Marriott by the Coliseum might not be the closest, but it might be the easiest drive. It's about as close to a "one road" drive as you can get down there.
It used to be a little too expensive, but this year with AAA it was actually cheaper than the HI Express. It's still more expensive than a lot of the other places, but it does seem like the other places rates are starting to catch up.
...and it has a bar for post-show beverages.

So I forgot about the ticket on-sale this morning but couldn't have been near a computer anyway. Just gave it a shot and ended up with a decent ticket!

I sat in that section two years ago. Row E if I remember correctly and it was a GREAT seat! Yes, you can see right over top of the sound board.Purple Ink wrote:9L row c

Re: Who's Going to Jones Beach 8/19/11???
I was lucky yesterday . . . after crapping out the first 15 minutes I was able to snag 2 sets of 4 seat throwbacks in sections 4L and 2.
I also grabbed 2 premiere parking permits - are they worth it? I figured it was worth the risk.
Also, I have heard scary things about the Jones Beach parking lot . . . that the troopers have been cracking down on friendly imbibing recently. I was last at JB for JB around 2005 and it was a blast. Any truth to that?
Thanks!
