Something Special This Summer?

Post by JollyMon66 »

This is an exciting time of year on the Parrothead calendar. Tour dates set, tickets arriving in mail boxes, and tailgating plans being made. I've been thinking about what I'd like to hear this summer. I'm not even going down the path of talking about what songs should be retired for a tour or two BUT I'd like to know what's on your wish list for 2011?

One of my favorite parts of a Buffett show is a good cover plugged in at the just the right time. Tom Petty's Wildflowers or John Prine's Big Old Goofy World come to mind. I think there's something special with Jimmy or Jimmy and Mac just coming out on stage and playing a song like that.

As I often post...I'd like to hear more of the early tunes (especially Nautical Wheelers) but for covers I would LOVE for Jimmy to do Zac Brown's Colder Weather. I think Jimmy and Mac stepping out and covering that tune would be something special.

So what do ya all think?

As a cover and an old song....I'd vote for "Steamer"

I like the Colder Weather idea. I was kinda hoping ZBB wouldn't release it for radio though.

I also support Larry's "OPP" campaign.

I'd take a show of just his own music if used the time to pull out some under played old ones.

Colder Weather is one of my favorite ZBB songs. While I'd love to hear Jimmy sing it, I'm not sure that he can put the power into the song the way Zac does and that may make it a disappointment.

Gotta agree that Colder Weather isn't something Jimmy can pull off. It's a young man's song, I think. Love ZBB and love Jimmy, but that song isn't where they intersect.

I would also love to see some of the older, underplayed songs dusted off and given some new life especially since I have this feeling he's going to be winding down soon.

(sigh) I have been a fan of Jimmy Buffett since the 1970s.
I have 8-tracks that still play on a working 8 track player from the man.
I have been to see him in concert nearly 100 times.

I do not know what OPP is. If I can't easily decipher the acronyms
lawd knows the average noobie has no idea what that is.

Off my *pet peeve* soap box now.

Can't figure it out either...maybe it's a typo and it's supposed to be OPH (One Particular Harbor for the n00bs).

OPP by Naughty By Nature is a song about cheating.
It means:Other Peoples P***y, Other People's P#nis
The way Jimmy ripped the mic on "Turn Up The Heat", I'm sure he could handle this classic.

While it IS an acronym, it's also a song .... a rap song .... and sort of an inside running gag.
Maybe you had to be there. Or maybe it's one of those "either you get it or you don't" things.

Ahhhh .... Gotcha. Well see NOW it makes sense to me
and I can forgive the OPP reference.

Heaven knows I make enough obscure pop culture
references in the BN Critters
that you either "get" or you don't.

My wife never "gets" anything I write.

Colder Weather is not only one of ZBB's best....i think its the best new song i've heard in years, and look forward to hearing ZBB do it with James Taylor in the AMC awards tonite....

I agree that Mr Buffett might not have the power that Zac puts into it, tho a softer, gentler take might be interesting too...and, surely, its one that Mac could hit out of the park....I'd love to see one or both of them do it!!
