I hope his set list improves before Austin, but that was kind of weak.

Did you miss all the "songs you know by heart?" I agree with you, I would have loved for Mishka to have been part of the show. As for the show itself, i'm just thrilled we got different songs. Was it the best set list...No, But at least he finally switched it up. I hope the set list survives by the time he gets to Virginia in August.

I agree with you regarding "All Night Long", but I thought for the most part, the rest of the setlist was a nice change up; no issue with CILCIA being out.Bucarader wrote:I listened to the show last night and I will say that the setlist was very weak and dissapointing. I personally love Lage Nom Ai. It's appearances are infrequent enough in my mind that when it pops up, it's fine. I'm fine without CILCIA, but if he is, even for one show, bumping that in favor of All Night Long, then we need to put the brakes on this train right now. That song should have gone back in the closet after the last tour.PeretHed66 wrote:I agree with you regarding "All Night Long", but I thought for the most part, the rest of the setlist was a nice change up; no issue with CILCIA being out.Bucarader wrote:I listened to the show last night and I will say that the setlist was very weak and dissapointing. Re: CILCIA: Did Anyone Notice . . .
No question, if it's a choice between those two, "All Night Long" is out, hands down. Hell, if it were up to me, I'd replace "5 O'Clock", "Cultural Infidel", and "Knee Deep" as well. I'd offer "Jamaica Mistaica" up too, but it doesn't bother me as much - "Ringling" and "Landfall" were worth hearing it. I did like the instrumental medley intro, though.FunkHouse9 wrote:I personally love Lage Nom Ai. It's appearances are infrequent enough in my mind that when it pops up, it's fine. 5 O'clock Somewhere should have been kicked to the curb a few years ago. I know I'm in the minority here but I'm not a Zac Brown fan and It's time to get rid of Knee Deep too. It always sounds, to me anyway, like they're playing it faster than normal so they can hurry up and finish. All Night Long was fine last year when Lionel Richie's album was out, but now these 3 songs just give him a chance to pat himself on the back and tell us his "good friend" called and asked him to sing on their record.
And what show were people listening to when they heard Lage Nom Ai? It was part of the instrumental medley the band played in the intro to Kinja, I heard maybe 25-30 seconds of the song.

I thought it was a good setlist. I enjoyed the new songs. I agree that all night and knee deep could be dropped. No need to play them anymore. Those are two spots for Jimmy songs. Cliches? Big rig? Mañana, Take it Back would be cool to hear live(I believe he promised Jones Beach he would play it this year) Plus, cheeseburger should be dropped and put back changes. It was great to hear some old ones. Morris's Nightmare might be my favorite "underrated" jimmy tune. Ringling, Ringling unreal. I wouldn't mind if he threw door #3 in.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

I was surprised Mishka wasn't there since he already was in town, he played at Margaritaville Friday night. I would much rather have heard Ocean Is My Potion than All Night Long or 5:00 O'Clock Somewhere or Knee Deep.jbfinscj wrote:Bucarader wrote:I listened to the show last night and I will say that the setlist was very weak and dissapointing. I won't miss CILCIA if he keeps it out - only because I'm so tired of him yelling the last word in each verse. It's a good song if he'd just SING it.
I could definitely live without 5o'clock too, how many years ago was it now? It's over - there are so many other great songs he could put in.

I agree with you on the yelling part. It's so old and I'm tired of hearing CHUM. Although I'm usually standing next to RhumChum when I see it live.ScarletB wrote:I won't miss CILCIA if he keeps it out - only because I'm so tired of him yelling the last word in each verse. Re: CILCIA: Did Anyone Notice . . .
There were some songs I was happy to hear Saturday night. I had heard him do Ringling, Ringling live once before, at the first show I ever traveled out of NY to see, but I don't have a copy of that show. Now I have a live version to put on my iPod from a show I attended. I had never heard Morris' Nightmare or Cultural Infidel live, I think this is the first time I've heard him do Kinja live but I might be wrong about that and Landfall is a song he doesn't do very often. And I'm glad he dumped Hot Hot Hot in favor of Bang On The Drum for the pre-recorded opener.

First off,
I understand and get that he's playing the new ones to sell some records and get people talking about the new album.
I'm still glad he's playing every year and I can go see him.
That being said, a few less new songs and one or two obscure oldies and I'll be a happy man in Frisco. Heck, to be honest, I'll be happy with whatever happens. I've been spoiled hearing the following live:
Livingston's Gone to Texas, Railroad Lady, Death of an Unpopular Poet, and Cowboy in the Jungle.

I think for the first few shows he throws a few changes in there. In this case some new songs and some old ones not played in a while. Then he watches the crowd reaction. If it works and keeps the crowd going it stays in the set. If not, it gets replaced by one of the old faithfuls...like Changes.

Re: CILCIA: Did Anyone Notice . . .
My take..........to be honest, when the song comes on & the video starts rolling I tend to focus more on the vid then really enjoying the song. So ultimately it's performance has kinda been more of that of background music than a featured song. Guess that's my bad. Personally, I'd like to hear the song done without the distraction of the video....although I HAVE to agree. Please SING the song, instead of yelling for emphasis the particular lyrics. Alas, prolly asking for too much.
Gotta love the medley live opener though.
In this day in age of EVERYBODY needing to hear their particular song....a snippet or verse or 2 of 3/4 different songs rolled into one 10 minute medley can sometimes quench the thirst of said concertgoers.
Seems everybody is doing it these days.

CILCIA is one tune I have always liked ...lime rickie wrote: I dunno, I do like CILCIA and it was one of my earliest JB tunes on the jukebox at a Jersey shore tavern (okay it was a dive). I would certainly have rather that stayed and that new karaoke [cough] tune [cough] never been added.
So nice to hear Ringling Ringling and La Vie Dansante. Loved the Mark Knopfler cover, too.
but also one I have tend to cringe at when sung live... hate that yelling the last word $h1+.
Just curious ... Which Mark Knopfler cover did he do? I missed that when listening.

I always liked CILCIA......i'll miss it , and the videos from the lot that went with the song. Almost like if the Red Sox stopped playing Sweet Caroline. I also like Brown Eyed Girl , nice upbeat energizing song to dance to , 5 O'clock could be dropped. I wouldn't miss Volcano either.
