I thought this would be about album covers. If it were, it would be this one.

Music-wise, I'll go with Werewolves Of London.

I also agree with Larry. I do like the Dead, but if he is going to cover one of their songs, I would much rather hear Uncle John's Band.

I was highly disgusted with his cover of On The Road Again. And to lead your show into it, almost made me walk right out of the show.
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

He did one by the Talking Heads, or whoever, a few years ago.

Once in a Lifetime. I still think on the road again takes top honors.

Though when he did Once in a Lifetime, he should have did what the Talking Heads did on the Quietly Making Noise tour ( I think that was the tour) One person starts the show on stage, and the add one more member after each song.

Sometimes you just gotta be there.... when Jimmy sang the "The Wind Cries Mary" in Seattle, it was too cool to believe.
Then again, I saw Jimi sing it in Seattle several times, so there's a connection for me.
I think it's the same thing when he does a Dead song in The Fillmore, or Neil Young song in Toronto, or Springsteen in 'Jersey..... you gotta be there.

I must admit that "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" and "Trippin' Billies" do leave something to be desired.

According to Wikipedia, "Rainy Day Women" has been covered by, among others, Flatt & Scruggs :o, The Black Crowes, Tom Petty, Sammy Hagar, Jessi Colter, and Lenny Kravitz.
I guess there really is no accounting for taste!

I haven't heard all of those but I have heard the ones by the Black Crowes and Tom Petty which aren't bad at at all. Same for Flatt & Scruggs' version (listen below). Earl Scruggs did a lot to push the boundaries of bluegrass (which is eventually what led to his split with Lester Flatt). At the same time it blew the doors wide open as to what was considered acceptable in bluegrass and eventually gave way to bands like Old & in the Way as well as New Grass Revival (as well as an entirely new genre dubbed "newgrass"). If you can find it, I highly recommend the Earl Scruggs: His Family and Friends CD/DVD where Earl holds court with everyone from Dylan to Baez, Doc Watson and the Byrds. Folk and bluegrass really aren't that far removed from one another.

Some good (or rather bad) nominations have been made already, but I can't imagine anything JB has ever sung - whether he wrote it or not - is ever going to be worse than his cover of "She's Got You". JB himself said of Patsy Cline, "There's just no way you can touch her." Too bad he didn't take his own advice!

Seconding "She's Got You", and need to also mention "Uncle John's Band" which was from the "Fruitcakes" album as well.  Never thought it fit Jimmy's style.  Only a completist could love it.

I love both those covers but I'm not necessarily what you would call a "completist" when it comes to Buffett. Yes, I have the vast majority of everything he's ever released whether it be on vinyl or CD but I have very few of the compilations, singles, etc. that would normally be associated with the type of fan that would refer to themselves as a completist. That said, some artists are next to impossible to cover in a way that pleases everybody and the Grateful Dead would be one of them.

"Southern Cross". There, I said it. I really love the song when CSNY did it. But Jimmy can not hit the notes in the "I have been around the world" verse. It's painful to my ears.
