Mac McAnally earns 2014 CMA Award for Musician of the Year; Alabama native has 7 wins in a row
Just call it Lucky No. 7.
Alabama native Mac McAnally has won the 2014 CMA Award for Musician of the Year, continuing his streak in this category.
McAnally -- a guitarist, songwriter, singer and producer -- has won this award six times previously, 2008-2013. He faced some tough competition this year, besting fellow nominees Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Dan Huff and Paul Franklin.
McAnally, 57, was born in Red Bay and grew up in Belmont, Miss. He maintains strong ties to Alabama, and has a home and studio in Sheffield.
He's a solo artist with a 12-album catalog, a go-to songwriter for many country artists and a longtime member of Jimmy Buffett's band, the Coral Reefers.

Congratulations Mac. This award could not have gone to a more appreciative person. This award should be included in the live broadcast.

Mac McAnally's Musician of the Year streak ends
By Russ Corey Staff Writer Aug 31, 2016
Mac McAnally's record-setting streak of eight consecutive Country Music Association Musician of the Year awards is finally coming to an end.
McAnally's name was not on the list when the nominations were released Wednesday.
The singer/songwriter/guitarist, who has close ties to the Shoals, has been nominated for the award the past nine years in a row.
McAnally was nominated for Musician of the Year in 2007, but lost to the celebrated dobro/lap steel guitar player Jerry Douglas, who performed in Florence Friday with the bluegrass band The Earls of Leicester.
McAnally also won two previous CMA's for a total of 10.
The Musician of the Year award is typically given to an artist for his work in the recording studio.
McAnally said he's said he's been touring more this year than working in the studio. McAnally is a member of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band.
This year's nominees for Musician of the Year include Douglas, Paul Franklin, Dann Huff, Brent Mason and Derek Wells.

Re: Congrats! Mac does it again!
Mac is indeed a winner. I grew up in the Muscle Shoals area and remember going to his shows way back when. He brought down the house at UNA auditorium with a song called Samuel Arsising back around 1979 or so. I also worked a steak house in Sheffield Alabama called George's Steak Pit where he and his wife often ate and they were great people and really good tippers. I always liked getting them cause they were very little trouble and that one table could just about cover my bar tab for the evening. If any of you are ever in that area I would recommend you go to George's Steak Pit for the best steak you will ever eat. If it is not the best steak you have ever eaten then send me the bill and i will pay for it. They also have great seafood and steak combos. Fins up!!

Re: Congrats! Mac does it again!
Saw Mac last night at the Birchmere. Excellent as always. If you've seen him a few times you kind of get to know most of his stories but he's just so good at telling them you don't mind at all. He finally dropped Little Martha (with a Big Mac on the side) from the set list. Eric Darken was with him as usual. He did Zanzibar which was awesome. He also mentioned that he actually had 4 heart attacks! The first three he just kind of "lived with" but the 4th one he called 911. Said he had one on the golf course where his whole arm was numb and he was playing well so he kept going! This was only his second time out on the road since the attack and he looked just a bit weaker than normal and he has definitely dropped some weight. He played for 2 hours and was superb. I kept telling the folks who sat at our table that they were in for a treat since they'd never seen him before. They were grinning from ear to ear when they left.
It was too much tequila . . . . or not quite enough.
