Good morning Molly, You're up early today.Punxsutawney Phil is only an hour and a half away, but I've never gone.Let's hope for an early spring.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

Good morning. I was watching the festivities on PCN (Pennsylvania Cable Network) this morning and @720 Punxsutawney Phil
saw his shadow. Six more weeks of winter. I'm looking out the window now and it's snowing.

Who's got the rum?

The weather guesser lied, it wasn't 72 degrees. It's 75 right now. I should have worn shorts when I went to the state park.

I'm not betting the weather on some animal that lives in a hole in the ground.
I've got better things to bet on like....when & where will Jimmy end up this year

Hi Alphabits,
We don't really have anything like the groundhog day thing.
In a lot of Oz the traditional four seasons have little meaning. For example in the "top end" along the northern coast, we have two seasons - The Wet and The Dry. The temperature is fairly constant with the monsoon rains and humidity characterising the wet season.
Around where I am (Sydney) the indigenous had six or seven seasons, usually marked by the available foods, whether that was certain fruits or the arrival of certain fish.
Also to add to this, only a tiny area has ground covering snow, that really only lasts a couple of months, so the psychological boost of trying to second-guess the end of winter isn't so prominent in peoples minds.
That is not to say we don't have silly traditions and ceremonies... For example:

Interesting. In my ignorance, I guess I just figured Australian seasons were similar to ours, just offset six months.Rabbitz wrote:Hi Alphabits,

And actually, Two-up sounds a lot more rational than relying on a four-legged fur ball for meteorological data.

Ha! Once a year they allow me to crawl out of my hole. I predict 12 more months of dumbassity, they give me a cookie and then banish me back to the place where enlightenment goes to die.SeattleParrotHead wrote:Hey, look who showed up!
