(Sung to the tune of "One Particular Harbour" by Jimmy Buffett and in memory of my uncle, a fellow Parrothead who died in June of 2000.)

I know didn't see him often enough
But God knows I surely tried
His porch was a magic kind of medicine
No doctor could prescribe

I used to see him there on the porch chair
Streets around the town
But now he is gone
I'm tryin' to move on
Escape without a frown

He was this one particular uncle
So far but yet so near
We'd talk the evenings away, say what we had to say
Then he'd disappear

But now I think about the good times
Out there under the wind chimes
In those days we were so glad
Laughin' about all the things he'd done as a lad

Saw enough to see his world spin
Mixin' different juices, meetin' demons
Listen to the temptations and the demons
Listen to them, made his world go 'round

Stories upon stories
Flowed into his dreams
Like words applied to paper
They would come out to me

He was this one particular uncle
Sheltered from within
Who I could talk to on the porch each day
And try to keep safe from sin

A most mysterious actin' uncle
So far but yet so near
We'd talk the evenings away, say what we had to say
Then he disappeared
