Shrimpboat Sound

Post by gulfdiver »

Does anybody know where Shrimpboat Sound Studios is in Key West. I'm going down next week for some fishing and thought it would be cool to stop by and get a photo. Any help would be appreciated.

I've seen some comments from folks like Toby Keith about it.
The studio is a very plain, boxy unmarked building at the end
of part of the boardwalk in the Historic Seaport District of Key
West. You'd never know what it was if someone didn't point it
out. It's next to the park at the foot of William Street. The view
from the doorway is just about the same as the one from this
webcam (which is located a few yards away.)

Maybe if we watch 24/7 we'll see one of our favorite Conchy
Tonk musicians pass by.
Also, if you go to the Conch Republic Seafood Restaurant and stand in
the front doorway looking out, it will be the white box to your left.

It's next to my favorite bar in Key West, right next to th Schooner Wharf Bar, make sure to roll on over there and get a "pain in the ass" and listen to Micheal Mccloud it's worth it! Have fun!
I have been drunk now for over two weeks, I passed out and I rallied, and I sprung a few leaks!!! Ahhhh the life of a college parrothead gotta love it!

Yup! You got it!
Amazing how so much wonderful
"noise" comes out of such a
faceless place, huh? If you go,
please check to see if the
round lime green sticker we put
on the old meter box is still there.

Yep, there and a place called La La Land. :)

I hear we can expect a couple of new Mac songs on Conchy Tonk.

Nice photos, that's it alright. Probably a shock to the PH's out there that have never seen it. If they pictured some glamorous layout in their minds eye, that it ain't. The only sign on the building simply says "No Trespassing". Old news, but for those who don't know, originally it was an icehouse. As always, G.M.,Jr.

I couldn't tell you how many times I have past that building and didn't give it a second look. I just thought it was some run down building used by somebody working on the docks or even a storage building for one of the stores nearby. I guess next time I will have to check it out a little bit better.

Thought you'd never ask...

Thanks to prior posts of other BNer's, I tried to see places I hadn't seen before.
Took the Card Sound Road route and stopped at Alabama Jacks. Great, funky place (reminded me of the bar in the first Star Wars - mixed crowd!!), and the conch fritters ARE to die for. The Coast Guard cruised by in their launch while I was there, looking for druggies.
Rest of the trip down was in light rain, so I figured I could kiss sunset at Mallory Square goodby, but as soon as I got onto KW, the clouds broke at the horizon and I caught a beautiful sunset. There IS a God, and she is good!!!
Wandered over to Schooner Wharf Bar for a libation to celebrate my good fortune, and discovered the guy next to me at the bar was also from New Hampshire. Too early for music yet. Good bar to hang out at.
Walked the few feet down to Turtle Kraals and sat next to a local who told me Meteor Cafe was a great new place for BBBQ, so filed that away for use later. Another good bar for island ambience. Next to Half Shell Raw Bar, which sucked. Served my draft in a plastic tumbler...yech!!
Next made the pilgrimmage to Shrimpboat Sound. You'd trip over it if you didn't know it was there. I think they still use it 'cuz it's so close to boats and bars!!!
Back to Duval for a drink at Hogs Breath. Good singer (name unknown). Walked up Duval to Margaritaville, but the music was jazz/swing, which is not my thing and don't do a thing (for me), so I threw back only one beer. Light crowd. Walked by Sloppy Joe's (too touristy for me) and proceeded to Capt. Tony's. Worshipped before the OLD (early 70's) pictures of JB and the Captain on the wall, had a quick draft, and walked up to the Green Parrot. Before going in, I stopped next door at Meteor for EXCELLENT BBQ, then sat in Greem Parrot for a few beers. This was probably the highlight of the "tour", 'cuz it's mostly locals and has an authentic KW feel.
Stumbled back to Angelina's Guest House a block away (chosen because of location, price and the fact it's a former bordello!) and crashed, as I had to get up early and drive back to Miami for the meeting I was supposed to be at.
Key West is always a different experience, which is why I love to stop by as often as I can. Thanks to all who recommended most of the above "joints"!!
Yours in Buffettdom,

I was in KW 12/27-12/30. We took the Trails of Margaritaville tour. Had a blast. On our way to Schooners Warf we stopped at Shrimp Boat Sound for a photo. Frank, our tour guide, said when Buffett is in town, they skip that part of the tour. It was a great tour, especially for my first trip to KW a day before my 40th. We never got thirsty, that's for sure! :D

We are hoping to make it back down this spring. Where does this tour begin? Thanks!

Perfect picture. You do need to walk right past it to get to SWB.
