Just finished... 'Don't Stop the Carnival', Herman Wouk -- Can't believe this book was written over 40 years ago as the Caribbean is still just this way today!

I just started this one last night-

It's by a former Commander of mine who I served under in 1971 & '72.
He passed away in 2003 at age 87, and was one hell of a Navy man.

Heart in the Right Place ... excellent memoir about high-powered DC attorney who goes home to work in her small-town physician father's office after her mother has a heart attack. I've not had so much luck lately with new authors, but I really, really liked this one. The first 5 pages just cracked me up.

While I don't post everything I read here ( there are enough databases on our private lives as it is) once in a while I like to share what I read.

Just finished up "Rain" a play by John Colton and Clemence Randolph.

Just finished "Playing the Enemy". It's about Mandela, the building of South Africa, and the 1995 World Rugby Cup. Best book I have read all year. I felt myself cheering for the South African Rugby team at the end of the book :D :D

Bought this one yesterday, started and finished it within a couple hours today. I laughed and of course I cried...and I could relate to much of the story. I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever loved a cat...or any pet for that matter. You'll understand. It's a keeper.

My other new favorite is the Maisie Dobbs series, about a female detective/psychologist roughly around 1930. I'm dying because the fifth book won't be released until Nov 25th....I can't wait that long!

Kath: I've heard that book is sooo heartwarming ... glad you liked it.

I'm still on the Algonquin list, but haven't found anything I'd recommend. :-?

My latest:

It's called "LIFE'S LESSONS OF A LEGEND."
It's (obviously) about our beloved Captain Tony.
Written by BRAD MANARD of Solon, IA-a friend and member of our P.H.C. and guitarist for the Cedar Island Band.
Friend or not, it's a MUST READ for any parrothead. (And MY picture is even in there too). :o
available on amazon.com or I can get you a copy from Brad himself :D

Miguel Street by V.S. Naipaul. Not new by any means, but compelling.

"Loving Frank." The fictionalized telling of a the romance between Frank Lloyd Wright and Martha "Mamah" Borthwick, while they were both married to other people ... the writing is quite exquisite. I'm taking my time - not rushing through.
