Oh my.

At least we agree on something.
What's disproved? What's urban legend? It was merely originally a letter to the editor. And I did say it enforced my decision. I actually had already made up my mind, just to vote for the opposite of you!  :D j/k! (If you can't tell, I don't take this stuff seriously. Again, my problem, not yours.)

Something about this year scares me, and keeps causing me to take notice. I'm copying and pasting an email I received today, that is enough to enforce my decision on who I'll vote for.

A History Lesson

In the late 1950's most Cubans thought Cuba needed "a change" and they were right. So when a young, dynamic leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.

When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in.

He said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, and everyone followed.

He said he would bring justice and equality to all, and everyone said "Praise the Lord!"

The young leader said, "I will be for change and I'll bring you change," and everyone yelled, "Viva Fidel!"

But by the time the executioner's guns went silent, the people's guns had been taken away.

By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed.

By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing.

By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him.

By the time "the change" was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status.

By the time the change was over more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes to escape it.

Luckily, we in America would never fall for a young leader who promised change without asking, "what change?" ...... Would we?

You said you were going to vote based on a email you received ... that's scary to me. Get out on the Internet and go to the sources, not the blogs, and read for yourself where these guys stand.

Or not.

JoAnn:

The Chicago Tribune earlier this week did a really good job at taking about 10 issues and lining up where the two major candidate's positions are on those issues. I believe US News and World Reports has an issue on the stands doing the same.

Go to the candidate's websites and look at some of their position statements on the issues that matter to you, whatever they are.

I think for many of us this is a very clear choice as their positions on some major issues are so distinct from each other.

But Cuba holds elections. Are you telling me that they aren't kegitimate? Dammit! And here I was hoping that someday they would elect out of office the Castro family.

No...if they're undecided they should wait to vote here till they are decided.

If they don't vote, shame on them. Image

I used to have a t-shirt that said BAD POLITICIANS ARE SENT TO WASHINGTON BY GOOD PEOPLE WHO DON'T VOTE. Unfortunately, now they're sent to Washington by people who do vote. We have met the enemy and he is us.

Oh, and a funny thing... (to me - definitely scary to you! :D ) Political discussions never existed in my home... I'm the youngest of 6, and we're all clueless. I think it's because we were raised to be so non-confrontational.

I don't know all our facts, but I do know these:

My 52 year old sister is voting for the first time this year. (You'll be happy to know she's voting for Obama. Why? Her husband has been out of work for a year.)

Talking about something in politics with my 54 year old sister, she said something about George Bush and his dad a couple weeks ago. I don't even recall what, but she said "George Bush, and his dad... his dad was in politics or something, wasn't he?" :o :o :o :o :o Even I knew that much!

So yes... be afraid. Be very afraid. We're not the only uninformed family in the country, I'm sure. But we're a pretty happy go lucky family... what do they say? Ignorance is bliss! :D :D

See.. this is where I am. I honestly cannot decide which candidate is the lesser of two evils. I may just skip the Presidential vote and vote in the local races and for/against Amendments. I am torn. This will be the first time that I haven't been able to make up my mind in regard to something like this.

Just make sure you vote for a PERSON for president, not a POLITICAL PARTY to pull the strings of the president.

I'm not registered to vote (I thought I was... oh well.) but if I WAS voting, I would probably be voting for someone other than the two front runners...

For one I don't think McCain is a good choice for the Republican party and for two.... That INFOMERCIAL last night was just SOOOO wrong
