I thought Outlaw Pete was cheesy, until I heard Bruce on VH1 explaining the lyrics over the song's video... now it's pretty damn impressive to metikiwoman wrote:Growing on me at this point. I do love The Wrestler, Kingdom of Days and Working on a Dream but the rest of it is not grabbing me yet.

I thought it was nominated for best song at the Oscars. I swear I saw a commerical for it the other day.Lightning Bolt wrote:I thought Outlaw Pete was cheesy, until I heard Bruce on VH1 explaining the lyrics over the song's video... now it's pretty damn impressive to metikiwoman wrote:Growing on me at this point. ..and you've just got to see the movie The Wrestler... when his song plays...it's incredibly powerful.
It's a crime that the song gets the Golden Globe, but wasn't even nominated for the Oscar
No there was some sort of weird rule where the song could not qualify for the Oscars. Some sort of loop hole.Frank4 wrote:I thought it was nominated for best song at the Oscars. I've read online that there might have been different music playing as the credits start, so this song wasn't eligible. Haven't seen the film, so I don't know. I've also read that only three songs got the minimum allowed score from nominators and that's why the Best Song category is so small. An original song consists of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the motion picture. There must be a clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition (not necessarily visually presented) of both lyric and melody, used in the body of the motion picture or as the first music cue in the end credits.
