Bart Starr, the legendary Hall of Fame/Super Bowl MVP quarterback who led the Green Bay Packers during the Lombardi era (including wins in the first two Super Bowls ever played), died earlier today at the age of 85.

If there's an NFL heaven, you know they've got a helluva team....

Probably the first NFL player that I became cognizant of.
Even though I grew up in Detroit Lions land in the 60's, the Packers were of course the marquee NFL franchise during that decade. Thus they're National exposure was off the charts.
For every Lion player I could name during the mid to late 60's I could probably name 10 Packers.
Enjoyed watching the savvy Starr play, listening to him interview in such a humble yet field general type manner.
Sail on Mr. Starr!! Thanks for the old memories!!

I somehow missed the news item. I'm with you, Doc, he was probably my first football 'hero', despite growing up in Bills country.

Sail on, Bart! :(
