Does anyone out there have extra tickets that they are going to sell for.....hold on to your seats now.........FACE VALUE??? I am not surprised to see the scalped tix on e-bay or on ticket brokers' web sites. I am appauled though to see so called Parrot Heads on this, and other Buffett fan-sites, offering tickets for two, three, and up to four times the amount of face value. If you are offering tix on buffettnews.com for way over face value, please do not insult me and the other true heads out there by ending your message with
"phins up". You should be ashamed of yourselves for trying to make a buck of your fellow fans. One last thing, the people buying these over-priced tix are just as bad as the people selling them. I know this was long, thanks for reading and feel free to respond w/ positive/negative comments. To those that have tix to any shows, shake your fins for the rest of us that wish we were there. BILL

Long live capitalism! Have you ever seen a ticket to the Super Bowl go for face value on the secondary market??

I'm all for selling something for a price the market is willing to pay.

What you're mad about is exactly what our stock market is based on.

This is the situation that you are proposing---- "I'm going to sell my shares of Capital One for what I paid for them, $30 a share. I don't care if they are currently trading at $67."

CAPITALISM?

GIVE ME A BREAK! This is supposed to be entertainment!

WHATEVER THE MARKET WILL BEAR?

f*** YOU!!

Sorry for the outburst, but this has finally come to a head for me, and I need to let it out!

What kind of lowlife scum goes and stands in line, goes through the lottery crap, then waits in line to see if they can even get tickets, with the full intention of ripping off someone else?

You'd probably sell your own mother if given the opportunity!

I have NO respecct for those who do this, and even less for those willing to pay those inflated prices.

Both parties are beneath contempt!

Darrell

this isn't just a Buffett thing, it is a sporting event, shows, concerts, you name it. The reason there are scalpers is because people buy the tickets, the risk is worth the reward. If they buy tickets only to scalp and can't find a buyer they dump them at cost, only time lost. The only way to stop them is to stop buying the tix...if a scalper gets stuck with a handful of tickets he may think twice about the show the next year...people talk about having Jimmy do something about it and give 'real fans' first dibs on tix...U2 tried something like that last summer and it was a total joke, the demand outweighed the supply 100 to 1...all I can say, is if the scalpers can get tickets so can you...everyone talks about how much trouble the scalpers go through to get tickets, well, you need to as well to get ticket. I understand that it would be easier to get ticekts if the scalpers weren't involved, but thats not going to happen...if you want a better chance at getting seats, bargin to get the ticket limit lowered. This will take more tickets out of the scalpers hands...my 2 cents...

I think the thread was started just to point out that it is odd that a supposed Buffett fan friendly site would allow these types of transactions - legal or otherwise. For people who are willing to overpay there are plenty of ticket brokers and even e-bay.
BN should adopt the policy of keeping their ticket "exchange" scalper free like CoBO. Didn't it used to be like that here?

Note: I obtained tickets for 3 shows all at face value (Nashville, Atlanta, Jones Beach) just by getting everyone I know to pound away for tickets when they went on sale through TM, so it can be done. Some friends got extras for shows and only want to re-coup their costs and they are listed on the ticket exchange for face value.
Even though we know the demand is there, we would never try to make a buck off of fellow parrotheads.

Whew, that was a long post, I need a drink. See you this summer!!

Lou-
Very well said!

Look, we all know that the scalpers are out there... but do we really have to host them here??!

This ticket exchange area should revert to being a scalper-free zone, just as the ones run on the other Buffett boards still are, JMHO.

Want the story of how i became a BAD GUY? Couldnt get tickets through ticketmaster...long story you dont want to hear. SO........bought two on this site from someone DECENT enough to sell them for cost plus shipping. I was more than happy to pay it. Ended up with a third parrothead joining our trip (traveling from maine to nashville for this show). Because she had no ticket, went to e-bay and paid $150.00 for two tickets. This is insane but OBVIOUSLY we were willing to do it. SOOOO...now i have one ticket that is WAY overpriced to resell. I have to get to Nashville, stay overnight...pay for my tickets, etc. Therefore cant afford to subsidize another parrotheads ticket. THUS I HAVE NOW BECOME THE SCUM WHO SELLS OVERPRICED TICKETS???? Man, and i was feeling ok about myself when i woke up this morning. Does this mean i cant use the phrase "fins up" anymore? Does this mean I am no longer a parrothead? Does this mean i am lower than dirt on this board? hmmmmmmm

Chill out phriend, no problems trying to get enough to cover your costs especially with all the trouble you went through to help out a friend. Good luck seling the ticket, but you might have trouble re-couping your costs this late, lawns on e-bay are down to $60 each.
See you in Nashville!

And I bet parrothead42 is a flaming democrat too.
I am totally with Lou also. The only reason scalpers exist is because people will pay their price. If this forum deleted posts from scalpers, so be it. I'm not against it. I can't get mad at scalpers. I just chose not to do business with them. I would rather wait in line to buy my ticket just like the "scalper" did.

Parrothead42, F*** you too.

if Buffettnews adopted "no scalping" on their Ticket Exchange, would we even have an exchange? Probably not. This exchange gives people options as to whether they want to purchase the tickets or not, whether it's for face value or more. I like the exchange the way it is for one simple reason... it gives us options.

RAGTOP-
It worked fine in previous years when the "NO Scalping" policy was enforced...

CS,
I'm all for everybody getting tickets at face value but if you quickly go through the exchange I don't see many people selling for face value, almost none. My point being if we limit what you can post on the exchange people will just start posting elswhere giving other people the opportunity to buy tickets. "Opportunity" being the key word, nobody is forcing you to buy this tickets but it is nice to have the option. If it was the other way around and there were a ton of people posting ticket sales for face value then I would be all for eliminating those posts by people jacking up the prices. It's just not that way though.

I for one don't see a problem, I see it as supply and demand, if you have a problem with paying above face value then don't buy from them. I think some people over react on the board to the ticket exchange. If PHJim took down all the ads of tickets that were being sold above face value there would be no exchange. there are plenty of ads up there from people looking to buy tickets above face value! As long as there is a demand the supplier will sell for a hefty profit. Its they way it is! I don't condone selling tickets above what the person paid for them but I don't see why the constant complaining, obviously there is a market for high price tickets or there wouldn't be ads! Also if I got shut out this year (which I didn't) but if I did, I would have paid what it took to get tickets, that does not make me a "scumbag" nor does it make the person who sold them to me a "scumbag"! I for one would have been happy there was a supplier there to met my ticket demand! Just my 2-cents.

Everyone seems to be able to relate to all these bad experiences, but how about this one. Tried to get tickets the old fashioned way for the Atlanta show - standing in line risking the lottery because of bad online experiences. The person taking the ticket order at this particular Ticketmaster outlet was printing off the max amount of tickets per person regardless of the number requested by the buyers. The extras were being stashed under the counter. Now here comes the unbelievable part! It was announced that the show had sold out. I didn't leave the store immediately and actually saw that employee discreetly hand a large stack of the extra tickets to someone who was obviously a scalper. Do you think the manager of that place would do anything about it? Nope...

not to mention that if you were one of the many people to get shut out by TM and you compared prices to those on this exchange and to those on ebay and brokers websites, you would find that the tix on this exchange are far less expensive (although over face value) than the alternitives. Like I said before it's nice to have the options! Hey BOR we must be a glutten for punishment, we keep getting s***ered into these conversations.

Richhermes- I'm just curious. So what happens if you stand in line and don't get tickets? Do you just not got to the concert? I agree that scalpers create the inflated prices as well as us fools that pay em but heck, I just gotta go see the man! I've been lucky enuf not to have to pay scalpers prices but I have close friends that had no choice! In our group, we had 11 people tryin to get seats for Atlanta. We were shootin for around 20 tickets. We got only 3. Best wishes dude!

Well you're right, we all take a beating once in a while. I just hate to see people get so dawggone riled up on an issue that they have to curse at somebody else. We all don't agree on the scalping subject but we are all here because of one thing. We all like JB. So peace, brothers! I wanna be the Last Man Standing!
