The story is it originally started out as a wallpaper cleaner.
The non-toxic, non-staining, reusable modeling compound that came to be known as "Play-Doh" was a pliable, putty-like substance concocted by Noah McVicker of Cincinnati-based soap manufacturer Kutol Products.  It was devised at the request of Kroger Grocery, which wanted a product that could clean coal residue from wallpaper.  Following World War II, with the transition from coal-based home heating to natural gas and the resulting decrease in internal soot, and the introduction of washable vinyl-based wallpaper, the market for wallpaper cleaning putty decreased substantially.  McVicker's nephew, Joe McVicker, joined Kutol with the remit to save the company from bankruptcy.  Joe McVicker was the brother-in-law of nursery school teacher Kay Zufall, who had seen a newspaper article about making art projects with the wallpaper cleaning putty.  Her students enjoyed it, and she persuaded Noah McVicker (who also sold the putty) and Joe McVicker to manufacture it as a child’s toy.

Good morning all. As an artist, I never liked Play Doh. It doesn't sculpt well compared to the ugly, oil infused modelling clay. I made that opinion at the age of seven. My first grade students all received the good stuff to keep in their desk or take home after several sculpting lessons.

We leave in hour for double scopes. I'm monitored for Barret's syndrome, a precursor to esophageal cancer. The cancer that took Eddie Money. It is treatable if caught in time.

Hey everyone!

Since last week we had lots of free time we are paying for it this week.

Tonight, Kevin has his yearly physical (which was rescheduled by the dr's office from July 5);
tomorrow morning he gets an epidural steroid in his upper back (3rd one in 4 years for this spot);
Wednesday we host what we call "3rd Wednesday Night Meatball" for 8 friends.
I'm leaving work at noon on Thursday for the 3rd of 4 long weekend beach visits this year.

Oh yea -- and then there's this work thing :)

Lunch at Old Chicago again today - chicken and waffles. I never had that before, it was delicious. Now I'll have to go to the park to walk off the calories. :lol:

Afternoon BNers

When I was growing up, we only had clay. I hated it because my hands weren't strong enough to work with it. I know, the heat from your hands....nope. not for me.
But my Mother had a recipe for clay using salt and alum. It was soft and great.

Hi there! Bern is a chef who had foodies choose 2 choices for a high end wedding reception at his event center. They chose filet as a choice and chicken with waffles.

My scopes went well. polyps were removed. Life is good.

I never have before, either. Not big in Illinois or in Colorado. Had it Sunday for the first time. Each item never touched on my plate. Do NOT want syrup on my chicken. :P

Thanks, Molly and Tammy. The Barret's syndrome diagnosis some years ago really scared me. If bad, the surgeon cuts out the esophagus infected with cancer cells, then stretches it and reattaches the ends. I've been okay so far. They will contact me about the biopsy results.

BUT

Life is still good. :D
