Out of idle curiosity how much does a covid test cost in the US? I imagine that each state has it's own prices but a ballpark number?LIPH wrote: ↑December 11, 2020 1:01 pm I was watching the noon news and they mentioned there's going to be free covid testing this weekend at the Tanger outlet mall. Who thought it was a good idea to have covid testing at a mall 2 weeks before Christmas? That's not going to be crowded.Even if it's a stay in your car drive thru thing like the one at the Pelicans ballpark when I got tested a few months ago, I can see a massive traffic jam.
Here in Oz it is always free.

I don't know what it costs, the county where I live in South Carolina has been offering free testing since testing started. I don't know if that's the case in the entire state and I have no clue what the other 49 states are doing.Rabbitz wrote: ↑December 11, 2020 3:03 pmOut of idle curiosity how much does a covid test cost in the US? Before Thanksgiving, I had to pay for one because I couldn't get an appointment at one of the free testings sites on campus. It is going to cost me $120 when I get the bill. That is with insurance.LIPH wrote: ↑December 11, 2020 3:21 pmI don't know what it costs, the county where I live in South Carolina has been offering free testing since testing started. Re: Frosty beer FRIDAY @ the MSC
Around June here in Savannah they were offering free tests at the Civic Center. It was first come first serve because you had to stay in your vehicle until someone got to you. I don't think they are doing that anymore. At the end of November some of our Urgent Cares (the ones affiliated with the hospital(s) here) got in the rapid covid test. I used to work at an Urgent Care and I don't know for sure, but I would bet my pinky toe they aren't cheap even with good insurance.txaggirl91 wrote: ↑December 11, 2020 3:59 pmBefore Thanksgiving, I had to pay for one because I couldn't get an appointment at one of the free testings sites on campus. Re: Frosty beer FRIDAY @ the MSC
There was a BIG push to have everyone test before they went home for Thanksgiving (classes were officially over and finals were online). The lines were CRAZY long each day. I was glad to see students being responsible and getting tested before going home.
One of the testing sites is right outside my building. I've used it a few times. Walk out, do the mouth swab, and come back to the office. Takes longer to get down and back to the office than to do the actual test.

$120 after insurance - yikes.
In this household we've had to have five tests so far - that would add up.
As a part of the (pretty successful) battle against the virus we have been encouraged to get tested whenever we suffer from any of the symptoms - contrary to the opinions of some - more testing means more cases are found and more protection can be offered. To ensure people can and will get tested the tests must be free.
Interestingly the state governments (who are running the programs) put out news stories and announcements whenever testing rates start to drop off.
This is one advantage of socialized or universal healthcare. (Even apart from the helping the poor and disadvantaged thing).
