Nope, I think they're awful. But E's company produces TONS of them.
Our family tradition used to be creamy or pickled herring. Can't stand that stuff, either.

I'm making this tonight: (Along with sourdough bread and baby romaine salad)

There is always time to eat some. The day isn't over.

Yes, I try to eat some every year. Not sure if they help with the luck or I just like them.😊

I actually like them & eat them a few times a year. Since I ate them Jan 1 last year (& we all know how last year went...) I'll wait till tomorrow or Sun for my 1st of 2021

So today's culinary adventures have taken a bit of a turn.

It's been raining here for over a week (not that we've been back that long) and the forecasts are for more of the same for at least the next 10 days. I WAS going to breakout the charcoal grill and smoker to while away the day but Mrs Rabz decided, in her infinite wisdom, that a three week backlog of washing that includes two weeks of travel clothes takes precedence and has claimed the undercover area as a clothes drying zone. Therefore devices that emit smoke are banned.

So the wingz will be done in the oven, but I am still undecided how the pork fillet roast and flame grilled vegetables will be achieved...

Pasta goes down so fast, I always feel stuffed, because I eat too much too quickly.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

My first beer of the new year is a Brooklyn lager, because I was born in Brooklyn. I'm drinking it out of a pint glass from Grumpy Old Men Brewing because, well, isn't it obvious?

Our family tradition used to be creamy or pickled herring. Can't stand that stuff, either.
My dad loved herring.  One Xmas as a gag gift each one of us gave him a jar of it and got as many relatives and friends to go along with us as we could.  He ended up with over a case of the stuff, and there was hardly room in the basement refrigerator (where we normally kept the beer and soda pop) for anything else.

Our New Years' family tradition was to make egg-and-onion sandwiches — sort of like an omelette sandwich — after coming home from watching the fireworks at midnight.  Crack an egg into a small 8-ounce(?) swirl mixer (see pic below),
Image
add chopped onions and green peppers , shake to blend, pour out into a pan and fry it up, then serve with mustard and Miracle Whip between two slices of bread.  Mom even had THREE — count 'em, THREE!! — specially-sized square fry pans that were perfect for these and caused them to come out just the right size to fit the bread slices and everything.

When my mother passed away my sister, the little brat, glommed onto all three of them and wouldn't let me have a single one!

Duhhh?  The onion just starts out raw.  It gets cooked along with the egg and the peppers when you fry it!

Happy 2021 everyone! Somehow I missed stopping in yesterday.

All of the Christmas decorations are in the basement waiting to be put back into the appropriate plastic totes/bins. Kevin always says it looks like a Christmas bomb went off when the house is in this stage.

Sadly, most of the rooms look “nekked” now. But, tomorrow all the snowmen will come alive and be distributed throughout Ringville.

Kevin and I have a total of 4 dr appts this week. Kevin is proceeding with surgery for his C5,6,7. This is outpatient so it can be scheduled fairly quickly after his MRI on Tuesday and surgical consult on Thursday.

On Friday He is getting a 2nd injection in his right hip. Luckily the 1st one lasted 10 years. The surgeon is not terribly optimistic he will get much relief this time as there is no cartilage left. Hip replacements are considered elective and none of our local hospitals are able to do any because of being filled to capacity due to covid.

Looks like we will be using that stimulus $ towards our deductibles. :o
