It originated in Germany and is a Pennsylvanian Dutch celebration held a day before Ash Wednesday. As a tradition, Germans indulge in delicious doughnut pastries before the Lenten fast, a period of fasting observed by Catholics and Protestants.

Made jambalaya this morning and just had a bowl. It was pretty decent. Couldn't justify buying a King Cake for just me and Sandra so hid a plastic baby (have a collection of them from past King Cakes) under four Samoas (Girl Scout cookies) and waiting to see who finds the baby this year.

My sister and BIL are on a plane heading to Hawaii for 8 days.

When JB & the CRB has come to Pine Knob (Detroit) the last few times Mac has done a benefit show for Wounded Warriors in the area. As it's a benefit concert it's normally quite pricey (but worth it I'm sure) & a few times its been at a Country Club so Joe public doesn't get the word.
