NATIONAL ICE CREAM SANDWICH DAY | AUGUST 2

On August 2nd, National Ice Cream Sandwich Day encourages us to cool off with one of our favorite frozen treats. Whether it’s vanilla, strawberry or Neopolitan between two chocolate wafers, the dessert sure will hit the spot on a hot summer day.

The original ice cream sandwich sold for a penny in 1900 from a pushcart in the Bowery neighborhood of New York. Newspapers never identified the name of the vendor in articles that appeared across the country. However, the ice cream sandwiched between milk biscuits became a hit. Soon, pushcarts popped up around the city and country during the summer months selling the portable treats. Early pictures show beachgoers at Atlantic City getting their ice cream sandwichs for 1¢ each.

We are "On the Road Again" toward Texas. It was a great trip but it was too hot and too rainy.

I had a great night at Disney Springs last night. SOUTHBOUND!! got in all 4 sets in. Last Sunday they only got 4 songs before the monsoon hit. But they were great and I got all my requests. Such nice guys and so talented.

I could probably count on 1 hand the amount of them I've had over the last 5-10 years. Prefer my ice cream in a bowl these days

Had a crazy thing happen yesterday. Lynn & her girlfriend are going to Cancun for a week at the end of September. Flights were booked through Spirit Air, nonstop Detroit to Cancun round trip departing on a Tuesday & returning on a Tuesday. Yesterday email notification comes in saying non stops no longer running for those dates. A quick check & it seems NO AIRLINES are running or have available non stops for those dates & that route.
Ended up switching airlines & getting 1 layover flights. Just seems crazy you can make plans & then in a blink of an eye the airline 8 weeks out can change your plans like that. Air Travel....gotta love it

Another extremely SLOW day at the flower shop. We only had 3 deliveries today I'm thinking about heading home early. If I'm gonna be bored I can be bored at home in my comfy clothes with a margarita in my hand. Plus, I woke up around 2:30 am and couldn't get back to sleep till about 5:30. Uggg.

One of the beers is a nice easy drinking pilsner. The other one is a Belgian strong ale that's 10.5% ABV. I'm having that one now, it'll be a sipping beer.

So let me get this straight... you have a $5.00 credit which will partially cover the cost of the "necessary" purchase of 2 Belgian beers... and still get an entry into a free trip to Belgium? SCORE! And good luck!!

Unfortunately, that isn't how it works. I'm sure this is because of the laws in the various states in which they do business, but rewards dollars can only be applied to the purchase of food and non-alcoholic beverages. At a place called World Of Beer I can't use my rewards dollars on beer. I did use it to partially offset the cost of my delicious chipotle chicken sandwich. And I didn't realize they were doing this, but I checked my rewards account when I got home. In addition to an entry in the contest to win a free trip to Belgium, I got another $10 in my rewards account. And since they give double points on Wednesdays, I earned another $5 for reaching 75 points. I have to go back in the next 30 days before my rewards expire.

So I came home from home, got into my comfy clothes, cleaned up the kitchen, made a meatloaf, baked potatoes and peas for dinner tonight
Now I'm enjoying my second margarita!

And we made it back to Daphne, Alabama. Different hotel but same town. So far, no rain.

Hi there! I spent a great day with a buddy on a quiet lake. No fishing for a week due to Cleveland party weekend.

I loved ice cream sammiches as a kid. The corner grocery store had them and I collected pop bottles for treat money.

So we learned today that Mom hasn't eaten anything in 6 days. They're keeping her comfortable with morphine and diazepam. She's been sleeping most of the entire day, occasionally wakes with a smile. The staff is in tears over it, which makes us feel better that she is so loved there. Sigh.
