Question about Jimmy Buffett and Josh Leo

Discuss current members such as Mac McAnally, Peter Mayer, Jim Mayer, Robert Greenidge and others, or discuss past band members such as Fingers Taylor, Ralph MacDonald, and Amy Lee.

I've been a huge JB fan for only about two years now, I bought the JB "Live By the Bay" video about six months ago. I know it was recorded in 1985 so some of you probably haven't seen it in years. Anyway, I couldn't help but notice the incredible chemistry Jimmy and Josh Leo had on stage.

How long has Josh Leo been gone and why did he leave? Has he ever done anything with Jimmy lately? They were awesome together in that video concert (especially One Particular Harbor).

Josh Leo is one guy I'd like to see back in the band.

I'll have to defer to a Parrothead of greater historical wisdom than I possess... and get this topic back to the top in hopes that someone can help!

I recall Josh playing last on the Floriday's album but don't recall if he toured that year with Jimmy. I think he did, but wouldn't swear to it. Next album, Hot water had a bunch of guest artists and no Josh. By "Off to See the Lizard", Peter Mayer was on Board. I never recall seeing anything about what happened with him. I believe he is producing albums but have seen little of him performing.

I agree that Josh fit in well as a Coral Reefer. I don't know why he left, or where he went after touring with Buffett in 1985, but I saw concerts in 1986 and 1987, and Josh was noticeably absent. Not unlike Timothy B. Schmidt, Sheryl Crow, Larry Lee, Barry Chance, and many others. And of course, Fingers Taylor.

We will have an interview soon at http://jimmydotcom.com There is also a story about Josh, Larry Lee, Vince Melamed, Harry Stinson and Larry Byrom getting together and recording a new CD.

It's about time we started hearing from all the great guys that are our "heritage."

Just thought that you might be interested;
I met Josh Leo in a bar several years ago. It was probably '84 or '85. It was after a Buffett show at Merriweather Post. Josh was really cool. We had a beer together and then moved on. I have been a big fan of his ever since. Sorry, I don't know his where abouts now, but I thought you would like to know that he is a good guy.

I've been very lucky in my Parrot Head life, and a lot of things have happened that have blown me away. And last night it happened again. Josh Leo called me at home. Larry Lee had given me his number for the upcoming interview, but I hadn't called him yet. And here was the guy in white overalls I had watched for years on Live By the Bay calling me.

Anyway, he's pumped about the interest so far in the Vinyl Kings new CD, and he anxious to do the interview. I'm making my list of questions, but remember, if you have anything you would like to ask, just put it here. Oh, and by the way, in answer to the last poster, he's living in Nashville.

Don't forget to check out http://jimmydotcom.com for info on Josh's new CD with the Vinyl Kings.

Glad to here about Josh and the other CRB'ers putting together a new CD. Josh should be pumped; I heard a couple of clips from the Vinyl Kings new CD and it's fantastic. It will be added to my collection soon.

Given his writing ability, I'm surprised Jimmy hasn't covered more of his tunes and that the two really didn't collaborate on more than a handful of tunes during their time together.

Josh, if you happen to stop by and read this thread, I hope it finds you well and stop by often

No offense to Mr Mayer, but Josh Leo is the best lead guitar man Buffett has had. Josh can rock on that guitar. He rocks on Rag Top Day from "Live by the Bay"

Scoman16 On the subject of Why Bubba and I didn't write more-"Living it Up} was presented as a finished song=Jimmy felt it needed different verse words to apply to him so he changed them-"Blonde Stranger" and "Bidness" and anything else was written shall we say late at night while Partying. He never asked me to sit down and write although I would have loved to!!Writing a song with someone is strange sometimes-kind of like dating!

Hey WhiteOveralls,

Got the new cd. Nice Job! Sounds as though you guys had a great time doing it. It appears to me that you accomplished what you set out to do.

Funny an ex-reefer thread was at the top this evening. I was going to go look for one to bring it back up to the top.

Keep up the good work.

Josh and I talked for almost two hours the other night. It truly was, "A pleasure and a hell of an evening." I got so much great information, that it will be a couple of more days me to go through my notes and get the interview put together.

It's also great to see people picking up the new CD and reading all the positive feed back. Add to that that "Mr. White Over Alls himself has taken the time to join us here at Buffett News. Looks like were going to be learning a lot about our missing PH Heritage.

Thanks Josh!!!

I gotta tell you, Mr. White Overalls, that my husband, who still doesn't know off the top of his head what song "Blew out my flip flop" comes from...(and this after some twelve odd years of constant and exclusive Buffett play) TOTALLY knows who the guy in the white overalls with the beard is in "Live By The Bay". That, my friend, is something. Glad to have you aboard.
